I have a 1993 F350 IDI 7.3L Diesel 4x4, hunting for an auto tranny. From what year to what year will one fit without mods?

92 to 99 99.5 went to the 4R100

All 1999 were 4R100.

The only ones that will fit with NO modifications is 1989-1994. In 1995 when the Powerstroke was introduced the torque converter was changed to six studs from four studs.

There were quite a number of internal upgrades in the 1995 model. Have no idea what issues you would encounter if you tried to use that year model.

You would have to swap either the flex plate or the torque converter.

The electronics also changed in 1995, so you'd need to swap the solenoid body and the range sensor. None of that is difficult.
