So usually when cold and I first start the van everything is fine... but if I stop after that the transmission will be in limp mode which after sitting for a minute or two I'll see a quick flash on the check engine then everything is fine again...some times it takes longer and when tired of waiting I have to manually start in first then shift to drive when at 25 mph...5 minutes later the dim O/D light goes out with a little shift hiccup in the trans and things are fine till I stop again...rarely will it go to limp mode while driving...in day time the way I check to see if it's in limp mode upon starting is tapping the O/D button...the O/D light won't come on if in limp mode....The code reader I have never shows any codes... oh how I wish I had a manual transmission

Try this to read the codes: www.troublecodes.net/ford

It is likely that the power relay for the EEC is failing. When it doesn't power the EEC the trans will operate as you describe.
Thanks....I will check out the power relay... read another post from another group that pointed me in that direction too..when I have a moment to dig and see I will post back how things turn out...Cheers
