I have an early 99 that was retrofitted with the 99.5 air box. I was looking at doing the zoodad mod but from what i see it would do absolutly nothing for me. the snorkel comes out on the left side of the framework (radiator support), but that small hole that everyone is enlarging is on the other side of the framework. my snorkel is basically pulling air from everywhere except that small hole. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

If you have the 99.5 air box, follow that snorkle past the battery. Where it gets to the radiator support that is where you open it up. There is no "enlarging" a hole. I dont think one is there to start with. You are creating a straight shot from the front of the radiator support to the air box.

just got done educating myself on thne zoodad from another post today ..went to my brothers to show him , and oops , turns out early 99 is different. Sooo , can this be done with a early 99 with the stock airbox? i tried to see where it would work , but only quickly. any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

If you still have the STOCK airbox, where it draws from the drivers side fenderwell. Then the "zoodad" mod wont really help you. There is no place for the "Fresh" air to get into the airbox from the front.
MAKE SURE THAT THE EARLY BOX SEALS GOOD,,no broken tabs or anything. Also REFRAIN From using the K&N drop in filter in stock boxes,,they dont seal well it seems.

jim, thanks for the info! It is my brothers truck , a dump hauling a trailer and he asked about any intake mods. i believe he uses just a paper filter from carquest , which i believe has a foam type pre-filter glued to it. any good?? Do you recommend the up grade to a later air box , or go after market ? thanks in advance , dave

If he gets into severely dirty areas,, (dump truck,,) Then I would go with the Ford AIS I think. It is their severe duty intake system. (Should have them on all trucks I think,,,but cut pennies where ever they can to keep these trucks soo cheap!!!!)
Yes, I think that paper filter with the foam top layer is just fine though for now,,,
The AIS is a very good flowing filter,

thanks again! i looked at it and the tabs seems to be all in good shape and it clips down nice. i will tell him to look into that AIS system also. i appreciate your help. dave
