I have a early 99 PSD. I have been up and down every thread trying to figure out what is the best "bang for the buck". I have gauges, Predator tuner, DIY intake, and 4" DP with 5" straight exhaust. Runs good, good power, mileage ok. Next step I don't know? Has any one bought and installed the kit that converts the early 99 to 99.5-03 intake and turbo? Does it make that big of difference? Will it increase mileage and power? Can I still use my 4" DP? Or should I just find a wrecked 99.5-03 PSD and steal the parts of that? Otherwise I think I'm sold on the Adredaline pump from dieselsite for the next step. Any input appreciated.

There more than a few parts you have to change to really get it spec'd up to a late 99 engine, turbo, intakes, up-pipes, (intercooler pipes?), injectors, wiring harness, HPOP, PCM, IDM and I maybe even left a few things out.

I have got all those parts lying around here from a wrecked 01 but really see no real advantage to going thru all the trouble to make it happen. My early 99 runs plenty good just the way it is.

I am just buying a few more years with my trusty early 99 til the day I will most probably be driving a 5.9 megacab. I think they made them for what, one year?

It depends on where you want to go with your truck and how much HP your really wanting to get out of it. I have an early 99 truck and couldn't make up my mind on whether or not to do the upgrade... I know of one person on another site who is making 333hp/693 ft. lbs. on a dyno with an early 99, and I think there's a couple more things that could be done to better those numbers. If you want to go for 400+ hp with no drugs, then I think your lookin at the upgrade. I have decided to upgrade mine, bought most of the conversion piece by piece, I know there is a vendor who sells the whole kit for @ $1100.

I'm not looking for huge hp out of my truck if anything I am looking for more mpg. I still run stock tires and gearing and a bed cover. I have a stick so I can short shift, which actually helps mileage in a diesel. Shifting @ about 1500 is ok. So I thought by moving more air that would help me out. DieselDeaf I'll be looking for one of those Mega Cab Longbox conversions in about 10 years too. LOL

Sounds like you could stick with the early 99 setup and be just fine. If you want to move more air you can checkout the Beans D66 turbo, and maybe swap your intercooler (and tranny cooler while your there) with a 6 liter. If you need a bit more power you can always do the IDM mod and pickup a few more hp, although I'm not sure this would help your MPG.

I have a late 99 F350 Lariat with auto that I have had for year 9 years . I can pull 11.5mpg-14mpg in town and 18.5mpg freeway if I keep it under 65 mph. Pulling about 10k-13k lbs I can get as good as 10-11.5mpg on the flats running 35" tires. When the truck was totaly stock it got 12mpg no matter if I did 55mph or 100mph. After coming from a 02 Dodge Cummins 4x4 fully loaded getting 22mpg at over 80mph any time or any day. Getting 12mpg in my new Ford truck sucked and so I chipped it and never will go back to stock again. I love my setup. I have ran it for over 7 years with 1 or 2 software updatesbut out side that no problems. Hope there is some thing in this that hleps you make a choice. Good luck no matter what you decide.

I would put the ITP fuel mods on next. In tank kit and regulated return. Diesel Innovations sells similar kits. I prefer the ITP kits because they are steel lines. Everything I have heard about these kits is that they quiet your truck down and really increase efficiency and power by eliminating air in the diesel fuel. You will be able to see all of the power potential your mods provide.
