I found out that a mouse has eaten the wires between my EBPV and the main harness bundle. What exactly happens if the valve is installed but the wires are missing. Will it just stay open?

What functions does the EBPV affect on the 7.3?

Thanks,
-john

I unplugged mine and it will have the same effect as the mouse chewing the wires off. It keeps the valve open all the time and will have no negative effect if you live in a warm area of the country. Might be bad if you live in Alaska.

Ok, that's what my mechanic told me too. So what about all these posts about smoke and poor performance due to EBP sensor malfunction? Do these problems only occur if the valve sticks open?

No that would occur when the valve sticks closed. I cut my wires too, and made the EBPV into an exhaust brake. Flip the switch to the closed position and you get smoke and just fall on your face dead performance, flip it the other way open and the truck runs like normal. It actually makes an okay brake on a manual trans truck, doesn't work so well on autos unless you have someway to keep the convertor locked.

that's intersting because i disconected mine and it still comes on- but only when its really cold and it won't close as much as when it was plugged in. any thoughts on why this is happening?

Just curious , after seeing picture, how do you get to it to unplug ? is there any hooks/fingers to unclasp and pull at same time .Do you pry with screwdriver or long needle nose plyers ? Are most connectors the same methode of mating?

I am still confused by the ebpv. I hear alot of talk about gutting it, but if you disconnect the wire, will you get the same result? This would surely be an easier way than to have to gut it. Would there be any downside to just disconnecting the wire? Is this the way to go. I dont have problems with mine, but I am sure I will sooner or later. Thanks

the diffrence between gutting it and unplugging it are diffrent but one in the same.. gutting it completely gets rid of the valve so its no longer used unplugging it is pretty much the same.. now the diffrence EXHAUST FLOW that valve takes up space in the opening for ur exhaust getting rid of it allows better exhaust flow

Thanks for the info. So would you recommend that I keep it connected for now until I start having problems. Or should I unplug it now? I live in So. CA. so temps won't be a problem.

I am very interested in this thread. I tried to find the EBPV call out on my Helm's disk and could not find it... it is not the easiest resource to navigate! Any way, where is the actual valve located? I am about to install a new exhaust - and living in the Carribean I don't have too many cool days /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif - so I was thinking to "gutting" while at the other work... anyone have detailed pics or instructions?

Thanks, Pad

I did use a long screw driver and a cheap pare of long extended needle nose pliers.

That sounds like the EBPV sensor, which needs to be left on. The EBPV is back on the turbo pedistal behind the intake "Y" pipe, and on the front side of the pedistal. you can vaguely see it from the drivers side looking in.

I'm going out to try to find the connector and disconnect it right now. I still can't find references on my Helm's CD

If it helps, I found it easier once I removed the Intake tubing from the turbo to the "Air box" then reach in, it's a tiny connector with a little metal clip that needs to be popped off.

Found it and had NO PROBLEM unhooking it. I am off to see if there is any difference. I am still interested in the idea of removing the butterfly (gutting) the valve. Any opinion?
