Have an oppurtunity to pick up a used Edge Evolution programmer for a good price. Is there a way to tell if it's VIN locked. Seller says he sold truck and doesn't need it anymore. It's local so I can look before buying.

Plug it in to any obdII diagnostic port on any so equipped vehicle. On the screen it will give some code that refers to what mode it is in. Can't remember the codes but as I recall they were self explanatory, ex=extreme, r=race, t=towing...
If it is local you can just try it and see if it will load on your truck.

If the prev owner didnt unlock the VIN (restore the stock program on his truck) you wont be able to use it on your truck. It becomes nothing but junk unless you can convince the mfg to restore it to 'like new' condition. I have heard they wont do that.

Be sure you test it first.

I believe the steps are:
Capture VIN number
Capture stock program
Select/upload new program of choice (60/80/100HP)

Upon removal:
Restore stock program
Reset/blank VIN number
