Edge Evolution Questions

It appears I can only run my Evolution on level 1. If I go to level 2 I get the SES light since i can't keep my foot out of it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif . Never tried level 3. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif
When I run the codes it appears to be from overboost AND low fuel injection pressure. Is anyone else seeing or experiencing these conditions?
I sent it back to Edge and they modified it about a year ago. Should I contact them again?
Oh yeah, I'm running a 4" exhaust, a Tymar intake, a wicked wheel for stall and plenty of other non motor goodies.
I could use some advice...

Unless you get some form of overboost eliminator, that code will stay. as far as the 1211 code I assume your getting, there may be nothing you can do about it unless you ditch the EVO and go with some Custom tuning where the requested ICP is brought down. Sometimes doing a AUTO-RX flush will help with ICP too. Then sometimes you just have a weak High Pressure Oil pump and need to replace it to fix the 1211.

Custom tuning? Do you mean a chip?
What is ICP and an AUTO-RX flush?
And replacing the HPOP would cost about?
Thanks!

I don't just mean a chip, I mean a chip that is custom written for your truck and will lower the requested ICP levels to a point where you are not getting a 1211 code.

ICP= injection control prerssure. It is the pressure of the High Pressure oil system used to operate your injectors.

Auto-RX = http://www.auto-rx.com/ This stuff improved my 1211 problem back when I had an EVO

A HPOP cost around $475

Ok, so I am now wondering about a chip.
I have always avoided them since I like the EVO tuner features but it is kind of useless if I can't use it right?
I'll need to do some research to determine who makes a good chip. So, should I do a single or multi level chip?
Oh yeah, I only noticed the 1211 (I think) code just before I needed an oil change. Otherwise it was only the over boost. Could be related to the "dirty" oil?
Also, I have 75,000 on my 2003 and it is still pretty solid.
I'll pick up an over boost valve tomorrow.
Thanks again.

If you only suffer the 1211 when oil change time is due, then your ICP is not a problem and you just nned to change the oil. It does this because of increased foaming and possible viscosity being sheared down. This is actually normal. In fact, I just suffered the same thing and just changed my oil and truck runs a heck of a lot more responsive.

The overboost valve should fix the other thing. I recommend you get one from Bob Riley at dieselsite.com or Dennis at ITPdiesel.com

That is the response I was hoping to get about the oil since it makes the most sense. I don't think I have ever purchased anything from Bob Riley before BUT he has answered many of my questions. Time to pay him back I guess. Still wondering about a chip though...

I recommend Jody Tipton aka Dp-tuner.com

He can do a custom chip or a custom program to flash into your PCM. my Jody Tipton program kicks the butt of my Old Edge Evolution.

Any downsides?
How are the shift points and EGTs? Do you tow?

[/ QUOTE ]

My first shift points were very agressive, my second set were too conservative. My latest set-up are damn near on the sweet spot. That is what is great, Jody will work with you to get things right, unlike a generic off the shelf tune in where you get what you get that's all that you get.

EGT's are excellent, highest I have seen is approximately 1200-1225. I was trying hard to get it to read that high too. Tow? Only with my 18-wheeler!

I see. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif 1200* - 1225* not really pushing it I guess. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

That was pedal to the medal 0 mph to a 100+ mph. You hear of many chips that are way in the red doing this. Even my old Evoltion would have been cooking some EGT's in the Red. I can't get Jody's 120 program into the red. I'm sure towing a heavy load on a long steep hill I could but I havn't been able to yet.

I checked out the link, which did you purchase the custom 4 or 6 set up?

[/ QUOTE ]

Neither, I bought a used PCM and had him flash his 120hp program directly into it....$225 total...$75 if you send him your PCM

So you kept your original ECM and they modified the other, multiple times, until you were sastified? That soumds like someone I would like to work with. I need to call them and see what my options are.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well actually, Jody and I have gotten pretty tight, sort of speak. He actually now sends me a PCM that is tweaked and I just send the other back in swap...Yes, I do own two PCM's but I never have to put the stocker in because we just do the mail swap thing. In fact, FOMOGO has my stock PCM at the moment so he can send his off to be tweaked just a hair.
