Hi all you lucky powerstroke owners. Here's how my last month has gone. Noticed oil drip on bellhousing took it in for dye. Two weeks later take it back in for blacklight test, they susupect rear main but will pull the tranny to be sure. They find that the egr cooler is the cause of the oil drip. After a week of being in the shop i go and pick it up. I don't even get out of the parking lot and the turbo sounds like it's leaking air.I take it back they inspect it real quick and then they order me a new turbo.I guess i'm fortunate that i don't have to work out of this truck. Hopefully the will fix it correctly. Is it possible for the egr cooler to leak oil.

EGR cooler has engine coolant circulating in it to cool the exhaust gas that is fed to the EGR.

No engine oil is circulating in the EGR cooler, just engine coolant and exhaust gas.

So are you saying that in no way shape or form that oil on my bellhousing could come from the egr cooler.

In a nutshell... right.... The chance of it being the rear main is real slim, too.... Like the 7.3, most 6.0 oil leaks will wind up dripping from the bellhousing. Between trans recalls and abused clutches, I have yet to see even one rear main that required replacement.

I have the same oil leak and have had for over 10,000 miles on a 2003 F-350 4X4 with 29,000 miles. Been at the dealership 4 or 5 times put dye in the system and can not find the leak. Yesterday they told me that they can not visually see any leak and the motor needs to be pulled to try and find it. Oil on the starter, bellhousing and around the top of the oilpan. They say no idea were it is from but they will try to find the source by pulling the engine. Just wonder if they even know where to start.

Update on truck. Called to check on it service manager said they got a turbo in first thing this morning and put it on. I was relieved seeing how i was leaving on a trip tomorrow. Well I drive to the shop and when i get there the head guy at the shop looks disgusted. I ask whats wrong? He says he test drove it three times this morning and everything was fine. After he hung up the phone with me earlier he test drove it again. This time it burn up the turbo again. All i could do is laugh. So i turned around and went back to work. Sounds like they forgot to hook something up when they replaced the egr cooler. What do you guys think.
