I finally put gauges on my truck and I just wanted to find out how high I can run my egt's up to without burning something up. Also I have a edge programmer that I run in tow mode, what kind of boost should I be making?

The "official" pre turbo redline is 1250, but some like to limit that to 1200 which is not a bad idea unless you really know how accurate your gauge is. 1300 for a few seconds is probably O.K. and over that who knows /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif Towing I bump up against and hold this 1200 to 1250 pre turbo EGT for minutes at a time and after close to 25,000 miles towing I'm still going strong. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Max stock boost is around 15 to 17psi and the stock setup will set an SES at 25+ psi boost so 25 is the max so to speak. I'm not familiar with the programmer you have, but it will probably put your max boost in the 20 to 25 range in the lower HP modes.

International engineers say you can run all day at 1,200º pre-turbo EGT, and 1,250º is the red line. If you see 1,250º, then back out of the go pedal a hair to maintain EGT below 1,250º.

If you got bad advice and installed the thermocouple (sender) in the downpipe instead of before the turbo, then move it to pre-turbo. Nobody knows what is the red line for a post-turbo pyrometer, but from personal experience I know it's not more than 850.

At wide open throttle dragging a trailer up a mountain you should see over 20. 25 is the red line, so if your combo of programmer, intake and exhaust allows more than 25, then don't go there - back out of the go pedal before you hit 25.

High EGT and high boost run together, so when you're climbing at 1,200º EGT you'll probably also be showing over 20 PSI boost.

About the only time I have to pay attention to my EGT and boost is when mountain climbing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
