Hi, I have a 1995 F350 with the 7.3 engine, currently have 254,000 miles more or less. This has been a great truck and engine!I have been experiencing an intermittent problem now for several months, but the problem has gotten severe recently. The engine shuts off on all cylinders, sometimes it picks up and sometimes not. It acts just like the CPS sensor, except that is the first item I changed. Twice. Not it. The last time it quit completely, and left me on the side of the road. I waited awhile and when the engine cooled some, it restarted OK and I made it to my local Autozone and had them put it on their code scanner. I had CEL but the scanner did not show ANY DTC codes. I wonder if I have OBD capability with this truck? Never had occasion to check before. Anyhow, engine started after a short delay at AZ, and I headed for the house 4 miles away. After the first stoplight, I was accelerating through 25/30 mph and it died. I coasted off to the side and decided to see how close to home I could get. Waited 15 minutes, it restarted and I did it again, with identical results. Died at about 30 mph, and this time I coasted about halfway home. Waited another 15 minutes, and engine started right up. On an inspiration, I put it in low range to keep the RPM's up, and it ran ok then all the way home!! This truck, even when giving trouble, has always got me somewhere I can cope with the problem!
SO, the clues are, quits when running, but will start and run without missing until all cylinders stop. Will restart apparently normally when cooler or cold. Appears to run better when developing cruise or higher RPM's. acts like a CPS sensor, but isn't. I just cleaned the fuel pressure regulator screen, but it was not dirty enough to cause any problem in my opinion. There were a couple of blue green specks, probably O ring pieces, but not nearly enough to clog the filter. (BTW, filter was dirty and was only cleaned once right when truck was nearly new) I am going to check the starting fuel pressure in the morning, and continue looking for the cause of this problem. It is obscure enough that I would like some other minds helping as well, as I want to get this fixed and tested before I have to HA out of the Houston in front of another hurricane. You never know when that might happen here. ( If I can get this truck fixed, it probably wont happen at all! If I don't get it fixed, look out!)
Thanks to all!
