New user here so bare with me. I have a 2001 f-350 crew w/100,000 mi. Today out of the blue the engine shut down (not off) lost power and check engine light came on. After coasting a short distance power came back, light went off and all is good. What's up with that? Any help / suggestions? (oil & air filter just serviced)

Sounds like the CPS (crankshaft position sensor) is bad.

My guess is your Cam position sensor was kind enough to warn you of its impending doom...I'd get a spare if I was you. powerstrokeshop.com has an excellent price on one.

Without some diagnostics, it's hard to tell.... CMP is the usual culprit in these cases... Search posts and archives... there has been much discussion on this subject.
