Does anyone have a good set of daignostics links for an 2001 SD? I haven't been able to buy the manuals yet since I've only had the truck for 5-6 weeks.

I did a bunch of updates last week and this week, and driving it today (just got it running again this morning) it started acting really bad. The same feeling of trembling and jerking as a friends truck that we know is running low on fuel pressure in his common rail system.

I am really just starting to get familiar with these and don't know what procedure to do to check things. I do know that the fuel pressure is there from 60-70psi depending how I set the return regulator. I put back in the stock CPS I had and didn't seem to make any difference. Other than that, I don't know what to check next.

Reprogrammed the stock program into the computer, to no avail.

Should I put a gauge on the Injector Oil system to see what it reads?

Please help and thanks in advance.

Here's what I've just finished doing:
2001 F350-SD Crew Cab LB
4" Turbo Back w/Flow Master
Tank pick-up mod
Added oil-crossover
Severe Service Filter Assy
SCT Livewire
ATS Trubo Housing & Compressor wheel
Fuel Pressure Return Regulator
Heater Delete
Harness for EBV code over ride
Wrap Intercooler Outlet
Wrap Turbo & Downpipe
EGT Probe.

Check the connections to the valve covers if you haven't already done it. Maybe the UVCH clips also....

Look at the wires going to the IPR & while you are there make sure the sheetmetal nut is tight

Make sure the oil is full,,

just a few thoughts...

Thanks,

Here's a strange one though, I went to the library today to try and get some diagnostics book and tried to start it when I got home, and it started.

It hunts up and down when first starting the truck. But yesterday, it died when the truck was hot.

So, now what?

I may have gotten lucky today though, the local dealer mechanic is very slow and is coming over with a scan tool in about 30 minutes. Could be a great weekend still...

Dying while hot is usually oil related

IPR o rings

Injector o rings ...

The scanner should help narrow it down....

It ended up being even easier.

Come to find out, the Injection Control Pressure Sensor (ICP) was bad. After researching and talking to many people in town including my local dealers on Saturday, then Saturday afternoon it fired right up and was hunting up and down when idling. (Had to be towed home on Friday due to not restarting when hot.)

Monitored the pressures when it started, and at idle it should be about 500psi, and it was nearly 1000 psi. Therefore, the computer was cutting fuel to the system and starving the engine.

Swapped the IPS ($150 later) and then was able to get out of town for 2 days. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/warmsmile.gif
