The original oil pressure gauge in my 97 e350. what is the normal reading from that? usual it points a litle over to high or right down, but after i changed oil and filter the gauge has been unstable. sometime litle over to high other days it is way over to the low side, just oner the N in the normal letter..

i used quaker state 15-40 oil dont know what oil it had in it before..
not shure if it is the oil or the gauge that are not stable.

The gauge is just a switch. If you have over 7 (yes 7) psi, it will read normal. Less, it will go to 0.

Obviously you have not owned Ford Trucks for a long time , or at least not over 20 years like me. The Ford Oil Pressure guage as RPM has so eloquently pointed out is just a glorified Idiot light. If you are worried about pressure you should install a proper mechanical guage . Thankfully our engines will not run if they are low on oil. If you do have oil pressure issues however, It would show up as poor performance under load as HPOP would be starving for oil as the LPOP would be unable to keep the resevoir filled. The last 460 I blew up in the 77 Dump in my signature showed normal oil pressure just before it siezed up from lack of oil flow to the crank . It bent a pushrod like a pretzel almost. The heavily modifed 460 in it now has a real mechanical guage and the motor makes monster oil pressure. As long as your truck runs OK don't worry about it.

i have only had this truck for 2 months now so i am just rokkie at ford powerstroke :)

last day when the oil gauge was over the N i floored it with the dp tuner on 100hp performance then it started to boost up and just started to studder, no power just had to let of the gas. 1 min after the oil gayge ran opp to litle over to the high side floored it again and then it run fine. the oil pressure was high and great all the way home.

strange that it is so mood sick..

i have autometer oil pressure gauge laying around here that i am going to mount, where should i mount the sender for the gauge?

There is a port beside the Oil filter holder and the oil cooler. It is between them . It is a square plug deal. If you search the posts/ Archives you should find a picture of where to put the sender / fitting. If not I will try to post one tomorrow.
