Does Cummins sell the older 12v or 24v engines or did they stop making them when the Gen III's came out?

I ask because I wasn't sure if the Deisel market was like the gas market where even 40 years after Fuel Injection came out you could still build a carb engine.

I believe that you can get a Cummins reman, the only kicker is you will most likely need a valid engine# so they can source one for you.
Don't know your intentions, I know that ANY dealings I have with my local Cummins dealer ( Cummins Notheast ) is engine number specific.
Good luck, Tim

I ask because I see some people doing Cummins swaps on there tired 7.3 or there unreliable 6.0 and I was looking to see if there where new engines (in complete, long block or short block w/ parts to find) out there to buy.

Why not another IH, like a DT360 or 466? If they were looking for something out of the ordinary.

Maybe I phrased this wrong.

What I was trying to ask is

Can I the consumer go out and buy a brand new complete diesel engine from Cummins or International like I could go buy a brand new 5.0 from ford or 500ci from chevy?

Yes you can if your willing to spend the money (lots of it). If you are interested in doing a conversion there are numerous options. From buying salvage and having it overhauled, buying remanned or new, electronic or mechanical, it all depends on your desires.
Good luck.

Well it might be a lot of money but I think I would rather spend the money and drop a new engine & tranny in my 04 in 8 or 9 years rather than go out and drop 50k on a new Ford and be stuck having to worry about even lower fuel economy and more sensors and more codes & smog checks.

Yes, I might do the same thing myself. But what will probably happen is I will trade it for a whole new Ford. Just can't resist a whole new truck every several years. I wouldn't be too pessimistic about the future. There are a lot of smart engineers around and motors then may be way better than current ones. If you were as ancient as me you would have lived through the 60s and early seventies with wonderful muscle cars of beautiful design and mega horsepower. This wonderful period was followed by the Dark times of the mustang 2 and other such POS cars of so long ago as to seem almost just a bad memory now with such fantastic cars as the new Shelby mustang, the new Corvettes, etc, etc. In 1977, we thought the epa had killed off fun cars forever. That did not happen. There are some great enthusiast cars again. Keep the Faith!

Check these guys out...they have remaned cummins and navistar....I was looking for a remaned IDI long block or cummins long block for a while and there are several people out there and all the prices are fairly similar although many have different milage warranties....I found one that with returned core it was $5k with 5 year 100k mile warrantee for an IDI, with turbo upgrades, not bad if you ask me....I priced the rebuild of my current engine near $6K when all is said and done.

Where do you live? You may not be able to legally do this (have a truck you can register). The air quality regulations are getting nothing but stricter daily. I'd check w/ my state DOT on whether you can do something like an engine swap & still have a legal vehicle.
