the stand I have from checkers barley held up my e4od, but it is a cheap little thing. I dont think I would take the chance, If you took off accesories and heads a engine stand should hold, but I may be a little over concerned.

I beefed up a stand that I've had for almost 10 years. We added some additional supports and it just barely held it. The stands today are made much cheaper than they were 10 years ago. I wouldn't take a chance. What happens if it breaks or tips over, you could easily get hurt or brake something on the engine. We use a chain hoist on our overhead, its not as convienient but much safer.
I wouldn't do it on 1k lbs. Remember too, that along with all of the weight, your are leaning on it, torquing, etc. I used a Harbor Freight 2000 lb stand when rebuilding mine, worked ok but I was being careful.
No it is not enough IMO.
I just bent my headstock on my Harbor Freight #2000 capacity engine stand when I put a fully dressed IDI engine on it, and that engine weighs about the same as a PSD.

Would a 1000 lb engine stand be up to the task of supporting a 7.3 ltr block and related components?---Rob
[/ QUOTE ]Well after looking at those 1000lbs lifts all over town, knowone else would trust their big blocks on one either! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif I managed to wrangle a stout one though,(made to handle big blocks)for a good price from my local speed shop buddies.{had another good discussion on torque vs speed). So, I'm getting closer to this project. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif---Rob
