Can anyone tell me if this is normal? I just got my 2011 F-250 XLT FX4 Crew Cab short bed a couple weeks ago and the fuel economy seems very erratic. It varies on the same road, same conditions from 12-13 MPG to 24-25 MPG. I drive about 50 miles each way to work and for about half the trip if will get 12-13 and the other half I will get 24-25. it is completely flat terrain (East Arkansas). There doesnt seem to be any consistant pattern. It behaves this way every day, not just during a regen.

If you are resetting your onboard computer each way it will make a huge difference when the engine is in Regen (Exhaust Filter Cleaning) cycle....
I will keep eye with every thank fill or take average with longer distance

Wind? The slightest change in wind makes a huge difference on fuel mileage. The truck is not exactly a stellar wind-tunnel performer! Of course, I assume that you drive the same speed (use your cruise control - it does a much better job keeping the fuel mileage up especially on flat terrain).

It is probably in regen when it surges. And economy goes down the toilet. I would put almost a full tank of fuel thru it and then check it on paper. Against the lie o meter

ArFord--how many miles do you have on your new truck? I'm in Western Arkansas...13-15 mpg in town, and 20-21 on interstate...pretty consistent...I've got 3800 miles on mine...

Just an idea...on the A trip meter, I re-set mine each time I fuel for a tank average. On the B trip meter, I leave it running for an average overall...

Do you get diesel in the same place each time? I've made it a point to fill up at the same station each time, for a consistent average.

Those extremes aren't normal, but my new truck would regen often, but after the first couple thousand miles, mine might only regen once a week, and I've noticed my mileage is creeping up.

Just some thoughts.
