Hello all, this is my first post...

Anyway, this is a new truck to me, but it has a few issues. When I start out from a stop sign or light and give her some gas, it will:

1. Take off normal

2. Come blasting out of the gate like a race horse then I let off a little but it will basically seem like I let off all the way. When I get back in it to drive normal, again it will run like a race horse! This makes other feel I want to race.

3. Start off normal and sputter out and then back to normal a couple of times.

Basically the truck will run fine and then seem to loose fuel or something. I installed a new fuel filter about 7K ago.

A buddy told me it may be a sensor that is know to go out in these trucks, but at the $200-$300 it costs, I can't see buying that to diagnos the problem.

- Any help would be appreciated.

Two things to check out,, the CPS (can position sensor... New "B" part number someone will type in... $25 or so) and the Fuel pedal... you know the one... the thing you plant your little foot on to make the motor make extra noise.. yep that one.. it has a sensor on it that might have gone bad.... some one will come up with that part number for you too... I bet it is the gas pedal myself...

Oh and by the way... Welcome to the best Dang Forum on the internet... pull up a chair and make yerself at home.

Yeppers, welcome.

CPS part number.F7TZ-12K073-B

You can get this part online for like 15 bucks plus shipping. You will get lots of people telling you where. If you need it tomorrow, call FORD dealer, DO NOT pay over 40 bucks for it. Some dealers are selling the old part (same # except ends in -A) for 190 bucks (old price) some say they have never heard of new part #. Some are selling old part # for new price. This is what I bought (needed it that day)

Do not buy aftermarket on this part, if you do, buy three, at old part price, like 125 each. First two will die in three days.

Anyways like Vanman says someone else will come on with the TPS (throttle position sensor) number.

Agree with the above.. could be CPS, but most likely your go pedal. Had similar symptoms myself when accelerator pot went out.

Good thing to check. If it's still erratic with cruise on, then it's probably not your pedal assembly.

If it is, here's the part # for it.
PEDAL & SNS ASSEMBLY – ACEL (non adjustable for diesel)
F81Z-9F836-AB Older 2 Plug Style (99-early 01)
1C3Z-9F836-BA - Newer 1 Plug Style (late 01 & up)
