I have this code on my 2006 F250 with a 6.0 The truck has 38K and it has been sitting for a month. Looked up the code says it's P0460 the error code reads Fuel level sensor A Circuit malfunction. Anybody know the fix besides the dealer or is this covered by warranty.
Thanks Mike

Check Engine Light on with P0460 Fuel Level Sensor Code:
This may be caused by a miscommunication of fuel level status between the instrument cluster and engine computer. This code is set when the engine computer does not see the fuel level dropping it expects.

It may be caused by customer-installed items, such as a remote start system that does not power the dash when activated, an over-sized fuel tank or in-bed fuel tank.

If these conditions do not exist, the engine computer should be reprogrammed using WDS/IDS version 43.4 or higher.

This condition can also be caused by fueling with the engine running, parking on an angle, or driving up a long grade. In some cases the fuel level sender may be faulty , or have a sulfur build up on the sender and have code P463(use Chevron Techron Plus Concentrate to correct). TSB 06-13-11

Besides trying the Techron to correct, you could try 5% Biodiesel. It has helped some folks.

Error Code

Hey Guys,

Its fixed. All I had to do is disconnect both negative battery cables for 15 minutes. It resets the computer and turns off the check engine light if its a "SOFT CODE". Whatever that means. So far so good. Hope this helps others

Sorry to dig up this older post, but I have the P-0460 code for fuel sensor. I see were possible causes are in bed or larger fuel tank.

What is the cure for this situation? I have a 60 gal in bed tank, it has been installed in multiple post '99 trucks and never had this code. I have reset the computer many times.

I have a 100 gal tank in my 06. I constantly see the code if I run on the big tank for a couple hundred miles without switching to the regular tank and letting the needle drop. Mine is not gravity feeding the factory tank. I have an electric switching valve mounted on the frame.
No big deal, just reset the code and don't worry about it.

!sadgirl.... It doesn't sound like your problem is caused by the P0460 code. It may be incidentally to it but I don't believe it is the root cause.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

P0460 can be caused by the installation of aftermarket equipment such as remote starter systems and auxiliary fuel tanks.
Ford offers a remote starter system which is recommended. If the vehicle has an aftermarket remote starter system, it would need to be removed / disabled before diagnostics for P0460 can be started.

Auxiliary fuel tanks that continuously replenish the vehicles main tank will cause a P0460. Customers that replenish the vehicles fuel tank from the auxiliary fuel tank while the key is on and engine is running, can set P0460. For vehicles with an auxiliary fuel tank, it is recommended not to use the gravity / continuous fill style auxiliary fuel tanks. It is recommended to add fuel to the vehicles main tank with the key off.
NOTE: P0460 CAUSED BY AFTERMARKET EQUIPMENT/VEHICLE MODIFICATIONS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.

If there are no aftermarket equipment installed causing the P0460, perform PC/ED Pinpoint test QH and Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 413-01 Pinpoint Test B as directed. If no issues are identified per the procedure, reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using IDS release B43.4 and higher. This calibration contains a revised strategy to eliminate the occurrence of a false P0460. Calibration files may also be obtained at Motorcraft.
