took the truck in to get a trans rebuild and the guy mentioned that he read a code for the EBV... what exactly does this mean? and where is the valve... now that i think about it on cold days in the winter it never did the high idle thing at start and this might be why... i hadnt really thought twice about it being a used truck.

It seems common to confuse the exhaust backpressure valve and the exhaust backpressure sensor. These are two toally different and distinct items. Please post the code number so we can be sure of what we are working on.

OBDII codes are detected and logged during a diagnostics scan of specific sensors by the PCM at start, when the Exhaust Pressure Control Valve (EPCV) is showing High/Low pressure. This can be due to tube connected to the sensor being full of dry soot, or due to bad sensor. The provided plug (to the right) , will stop the PCM from throwing the dreaded P0478 code.
when this code is set it can defuel the engine the sensor does not tell the ebpv to just tells fi it is working so if the sensor is bad or the tube is pluged you will get to code.
just an idea i may have not explaind it right somebody may do it better.
