I have an exhaust leak due to a broken manifold bolt. It is on the drivers side and is the one in the very back on the bottom. I have had a terrible ticking sound and alot af soot buildup on my firewall. I want to drill it out with a reverse thread drill bit and possibly a bolt extractor. The problem is, there is not enough room between the engine and the frame to get a straight shot at the bolt. Can I loosen the drivers side engine mount and use a floor jack to tilt the engine a bit? Any wiring or clearance issues to worry about?

Can you cut down your drill bit and use w/ a 90* drill motor?

No 90deg drill, just a Black and Decker cordless. Thanks for the heads up on the fan shroud. If i leave the passenger side mounts alone and just loosen the drivers side, will I have enough play to work with? I don't want to bend the pass. side mounts.

Does anyone know how deep the exhaust manifold bolt goes into the block? I am drilling the old bolt out and I don't know how far to go.

Do you have the new, replacement bolt yet? If so, take measurments of the bolt and the exhaust manifold, then subtract. "Reverse engineer" it.
