I have noticed several Duramax equipped trucks with MBRP or comparable exhausts. Why do they sound so crappy? The Powerstroke has a nice V-8 rumble, the Duramax a kind of "milk truck" sound.

Is it the firing order? Of course I think the Powerstroke sounds very good with my cool duals, and am biased, but come on the Duramax does sound like crap even with exhaust added. Just listen to the MBRP sound clips to compare.

I noticed that too. The 6.0 is the best sounding diesel with exhaust upgrades of any of the big 3. Lloyd

I have to agree with Super on this his truck sounds sweet!

But in general it seems the straight piped large single exhausts don't sound very good on the V8 turbo diesels.

I like the sound of Supers truck, sounds really good. I think the 7.3 sounds good too. As far as the Dmax goes I like the sound of the LB7 (01-04.5), they sound similar to a 7.3 without as much whistle. The newer ones with a variable turbo don't have nearly as cool of an exhaust note as the 6.0 fords. The newer cummins (03+) that I have heard sound like an overgrown ricer.

The 6.0 l sounds like crap regardless with muffler or not.
They sound like a car when idling.

I like the 7.3's better. Now they sound awesome escpecially when straight piped.

The best sound exhaust is from a bull wagon with a straight piped 575 caterpillar.Detroit diesels are nice as well.Bigger cummins sound great too.Anything with an inline 6 and a turbo is good sounding but except a gasoline.

I second that, the 6.0's sound AWESOME. That's coming from a 7.3 owner, I think they're the best sounding, next to Cummins of course.

So, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

i dunno about straight 6 gas engines sound like crap, my 85 300 Inline with the 3" straight pipe EFI manifolds and a Cam sounds just like a big I6 diesel, and its in an F150 sitting on F250 running gear. 4.10s and being able to split the transfercase make it sound like a semi leaving the stop light. I agree i have 3 buddies with PSD's, one 02 s cab duallie 4x4 6shooter, and a 95 F350 duallie 4x4 crew with an E40D. they sound nice enough for me to go buy one this summer. But my 300 at school they call it the baby semi. Because it sounds like one, but its a pick up. It has gotten badenough that when i pull up to the pumps and i am not idleing that people come out to tell me, diesels over there. so now to avoid confusion i pull to the diesel/gas pump.

The 6.0 revs too much IMO, but they do sound real nice. i do think the 7.3's sound better though.

hopefully this fall before college, i'll be buying my own 94-97 PSD 4x4 5spd. so far i'm on track.

Cummins sounds best, the open-muffler or straight piped V8s sound like glass-packed gassers but with a weird fluttery sound. Maybe not all, but all I have heard do. Even the "one" in the video someone here posted about sounds like a flutter or popping sound. The 6.0 whistle I do like though.

But I don't have a Cummins, let alone a diesel truck now, so what do I know /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Haha, Super, I'm not trying to be mean, just telling you my opinion. Nice truck though, for a 6.0 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif How is life in the desert?
