I am upgrading my injectors to single shot 1.5 from full force diesel. I have them pulled out and shipped off. Now I am unsure how to proceed. A You-tube video says I need to expel the oil out of my cylinders before I reinstall the injectors or it could ruin the engine. That sounds pretty serious so I want to do it right. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this?
I am getting ready to pull the glow plugs and try to turn the engine by hand. A video showed a guy doing this.

That will work, even if you have the ejectors out turning it over by hand should get the oil out.

You could always get a turkey baster or a large syringe and suck what oil in in the cylinders when you get the piston to top dead center. But what little is left over after turning the engine over by hand will quickly be burnt off with no problems.

Things I learned while changing my injectors...


Pull the glow plugs out completely, (good time to test the glow plugs or just replace with new Motorcraft plugs. Do not use cheap parts store replacements.)
Place the valve covers and gaskets back on the heads and put a couple of bolts in finger tight.
Turn the engine over with a 1/2" ratchet and socket on the balancer bolt. Turn over 4-5 complete revolutions.
I also cranked mine with the starter, (jump the solenoid on the fender), after turning over by hand.


Don't bother putting the glow plugs back in before you put in the injectors.
After injectors are installed, jump the starter solenoid to crank the motor, (15 sec at a time), until the HPOP primes oil system.


I also installed the Riff Raff FRX on mine.
When I was ready to try to start the engine, we could feel air in the fuel return line the key was turned on.
We cycled the key a few times to let the fuel pump run until we no longer felt air in the return.


Make sure your batteries are charged good.


This "should" minimize your cranking cycles before she lights off.

Thanks. I have the glow plugs out now. I tested them and 4 of eight are bad. These were new injectors last summer. Is there anything that could burn out the left or right side and leave the other side undamaged?
I had the glow plugs piled together when I tested them so it is impossible to know which ones came out of which side.

Are the glow plugs the Motorcraft ZD-11's or another brand?

Off brands usually burn out quite quickly.
