Hello All,

I have just purchased a 06 F350 dually with the 6.0l powerstroke diesel.
The truck has had one original owner and is in mint shape.
It has 71,000kms(42,000miles).
I have been asked by the dealer if I want an extended warranty.
The comapny is Easycare and it is a bumper to bumper for another 60,000kms (36,000miles).
The cost is $3,000 and with a $200 deductible>
Can u tell me your thoughts??

Thanks
Rob

I bought my 05 last yr with 71000 km as well. Congrats on the new truck. I have not had great luck with third party warranty in the past, so I opted not to buy it with mine. It was around the same price you had mentioned. The vehicle still has lots of factory engine warranty left on it anyway..which IMO is where it is needed the most. Your PSD is covered for 5yr/160 k with a $100 deductable....I have used mine twice in less than a yr since purchase, so it was a Godsend. If anthing I am considering purchasing the Ford Extended Plan for engine warranty coverage of 7yr/200k....still $100 deductable.

Good Luck!

I have a bad feeling about aftermarket warranties. Personally, I would only take a factory ESP warranty.

I'm not 100% sure on your location but since you said kilometers I'm guessing you live in Canada. Stay away from aftermaket warranties. They are a waste of your money. You already have a 5 year/100k mile warranty on the powertrain (anything that could go wrong with the engine). That is what costs the most money out of anything and you are already covered. I don't think you will benefit due to the fact that you probably will not break $3,000 worth of window regulators, door lock actuators, instrument clusters, or radios. Plus when something breaks the aftermarket warranty company always wants all maintance records for the vehicle and is a huge run-a-round for everyone involved. They sometimes send inspectors and your truck can be down for a long time. I've never head of that company but I know alot of companies will only approve a repair with used parts. I saw a 6.0 get a used radiator from a junk yard because the aftermarket warranty company did not want to pay for a new aftermarket unit. Look into the Ford ESP Diesel Care warranty. It's definatley worth it and cheaper too.

Extended warranty

Yes,
My thoughts exactly..... I could save the $3100 plus $200+ 3300$ for a major repair, if ever required.

As for the powertrain warranty for 2006, is it 5yr/160K???
I thought it was 5yr 100k.....
I have actually tried to search this and see that as of the 2007 models
it has been upped to 5 yr/160k....

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks

Thanks for all your input....
with a 5yr/160km powertrain warranty,I certainly think that
I won't require a extended warranty.

What does Ford cover in the powertrain warranty?

If I Remember the 5yr 160k warranty is the engine only, ie internally lubricated components, as far as I understand this does not include, fuel systems, injectors, pumps, or anything to do with emissions, Transmission, Axles, Electrical or anything else.

I just purchased thru FCSS and I have never purchased an extended Service or Warranty contract on a Vehicle. My Truck is an 06 with 58,000Km on it, but it appears that at some time the truck had been reported stolen, and Ford Voided all warranties.

Got a good deal on the truck, and The Dealership went through it and replaced everything that looked like it might be an issue, (a very good and life long friend sold me the truck). I still had some concerns on this and the reputation of the 6.0 and got a good deal on the Bumper to Bumper warranty for an additional 4yrs / 80,000km (140,000 total). and if I don't use it I get my $2000 back.

Ford wasn't an option for me! they would have declined all powertrain issues due to the 4-6 inch lift and tires my aftermarket warranty 5/100k for 2500 had an upcharge for the lift but my last vehicle was in 6 times for ext warranty stuff no issues ever just pay 100 $ and it got fixed

Warranty with lift

Should not be an issue and no upcharge, if so find another dealer.
I have a 2004 excursion with 14" donhoe racing lift...Watsonville CA said they would not work on it (after I left from dropping it off) Santa Cruz threw 5000 in parts at it to find out 3 wks later it was a 90.00 part, but no issues with warranty, now I am in Seattle and get treated golden ,no issues, thousands in repairs, multiple trips in, still have big lift, 20" wheels, no issues at all at 60k miles and nearly 5 yrs into warranty from Ford, nothing but 100.00 deductible.
Changing dealers makes a BIG difference....

Since I bought my truck at the Dodge dealership, I opted for the Chrysler Warranty....I got it for free, so I would have been a real moron to turn it down. I haven't had any problems with it yet; I just pay my $100 deductible.

$3000 is way steep for a warranty. Is that Canadian Dollars? I sure wouldn't pay that for a warranty with a $200 deductible. When I bought my 2001 Dodge Ram 3500, I bought an extended warranty for $1300 with a $100 deductible, and it covered everything bumper to bumper.

Shop around, and you'll find something you like eventually.

Good luck.

Yes , that is \cdn dollars...\\I opted not to take it.....I currently have the truck in for an oil leak...covered by powertrain warranty.. I just pay $100 deductible..they have to pull the engine out to get to the leak.....not too bad for a warranty....

I brought my truck 03 6.0 with 33,000 miles in for an esp repair the bill was almost a thousand dollars ford dealer checked for an oil leak and changed the icp sensor that was bad the esp gold plus plan only covered 270 dollars I was supposed to pay 670 dollars outta pocket complained to the service advisor why so much trucks lifted he said so more labor time but later he dropped the price so I had to pay 470 outta pocked still allot for having warranty you figure you will only pay the 100 dollar deductable but end up paying allot more.

Just got between 4 and 5,000 bucks of work and parts done on the Ford esp warranty. That was ford's cost not retail if I had to pay for it. If you get an extended warranty make sure it's a Ford esp.
