The factory 19.5 Aluminum wheels on my F-450 are becoming a real pain in the tush. If you want to rotate the tires, they have to be dismounted and moved from wheel to wheel. This makes for a $85 tire rotations (yes you could move the tire and wheel, but the aluminum is not polished on both sides of the wheel). Anyway the $85 charge is just the tip of the problem. Some tire stores don't have heavey enought equipment to dismount the F rated tire, and if they do and can dismount the tire then thay don't have the needed wheel weights to balance the tire and wheel. Seems it takes the big wheel weights that are used on 18 wheeler trucks due to the extreem thickness of the aluminum lip on the wheel.
Does any one know of a good place to order steel wheels for the F450 4x4 trucks? I think I will just replace the aluminum wheels with steel wheels and SS liners.

I needed a spare tire/wheel for my 05 F450 chassis cab as FORD does not include a spare as it does with the F250/350. The steel wheels, (10 bolt) are manufactured by Accuride for FORD and are new to the 2005 model year. Apparently Accuride has a agreement with FORD and will not sell the wheels to any wholesale/retail business, they are only avaible through FORD dealer ships. My wheel cost almost 200.00

Good luck

I've got 4 Ford steel wheels with the General LMT400 tires still mounted - the tires have about 5/32's left on the tread (and they're still regrovvable, if wanted) - sitting in my shed. The wheels are $217 from Ford - I'd be willing to let them go for a reasonable offer. If you're in the SF Bay area I could possibly be talked into delivering them locally. Send me an email or a PM if you're interested.

Well, I've been gone a few weeks, but I can't believe nobody suggested SouthWestWheel - right there in Dallas - as a source for brand new steel or alloy wheels for F-450/550.

http://www.southwestwheel.com/mywebs/myweb4/catalog/f029584_3081135.htm

Yep, the new steel wheels are over $200 each. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

But the basic goal of rotating Ford dual wheels is the problem. Ford says don't do it. Right there in your Owner's Guide is says to rotate the front tires side to side, but to leave the rear tires alone until you wear them out and replace them.

But I don't care what Mama says, I'm gonna play my banjo anyhow! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/warmsmile.gif

Duhhh... you're not thinking here...

You say you want to go from aluminum wheels to steel (adds a lot of weight) and then run SS sims... because the other side is not polished

So you plan on spending more money for steel wheels, the brakes won't
work nearly as well as you are tripling the spinning mass of 6 tires
and rims, which makes for much more work on the brakes... and you'll
spend more money on the simulators and money getting the tires changed
over... add to that worse fuel mileage for the heavier rims as well.
It takes more hp to spin up and slow down all that extra weight of
the steel rims...

If you're ok with sims, rotate the aluminum wheels and run sims on
them.. or simply get the other side of your rims polished...
Duals in the rear never need to be rotated, they wear evenly, just the
fronts... Seems like you're making a big deal out of nothing...

The difference between the steel and aluminum wheels are about 10 lbs each and that is 4 wheels because the 2 inside are steel. 40 lbs is realy going to hurt on fuel millage. and I realy dont think it will take that much more to stop 10 lbs on the brakes because the brakes really dont weigh what it is stopping It just stops the turning of the rotor.
