I have the truck in my sig and I have the most awful door rattle at about the height of my ear. I thought at first it was my sun visor then I thought it was the deflectashield things on the windows put all of these turned up nothing. The sound sounds like it is coming from inside the door itself. Does anybody else have this problem or know what a fix might be. I only hear the noise at highway speeds 55 or over. It is not terribles loud, but loud enough to annoy me to death!!! Thanks for the help.

Hey Hornet...the previous post I remember was one talking about the darn door rattle when going over rough roads. The recommendation was to install a type of caulk INSIDE the existing door rubber and that would firm it up so as not to allow it to press down and rattle. Have not done it on mine but intend to as soon as time permits....my doors rattle like crazy when I hit uneven country.

The rattle is actualy a plastic part that is between the 2 doors. If you open the back door and look at the front part of it you will see this part. It is held on by 3or4 plastic rivits. I will try to post a picture. YOu need to pull this part off and then use some form of adhesive under this. Then put the part back together and you will be good to go.

so you need to pull off this entire piece of moulding??? I read in the general section about placing vinyl tubing in the weather stripping, this makes for a better seal. Mine only makes the noise at 55 and over speeds. Sounds like it can be either or??? I will try the vinyl tubing method before I tear off any moulding. Is this the same as on the 2000 trucks, because that piece does not look familiar. Is this pic of an extra cab?? Cause mine is a crew so it will probably be different. Thanks for the info, any other ideas please post.

No don't tear of the moulding. You simply pull the little pins that hold it in place, put a little adhesive on it and then replace it. It inly takes 10 min. The rattle is that small part catching some air turbulance and flapping around between the doors. I had the same sound. I also did the tubing in the door seals, but I did it to help with road noise. I also put brown bread through out the truck......back to the subject, get a small flat head and pull the center part of the rivets up and the whole part slides out. 10 min and you will be happy with the results.

There are plastic rivets holding the moulding on the front edge of the rear doors. Take them out and replace them with 3/16th aluminum rivets. thats how I fixed my rattle at those speeds. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Now that I look at it that has to be what the rattle is!!! I tried prying out on the plastic head and they just broke off. They look like a plastic rivot. The entire assembly is loose and you can even slide it up and down about 1". I only took off the top two. I think I can get some silicone behind the plastic piece and duct tape it tight to the door until it dries. Then I will epoxy the black caps back into place. I am anal about that type of stuff!! Do you think Ford would sell just the plastic rivots??? They sure don't hold tight, probably should have been fastened better at the factory. I will let you know tomorrow if this fixed it. Thanks for your help.

Just replace them with 3/16ths aluminum rivets. Some of them are hard to get your rivet gun in. But I was able to get enough of them in to stop the rattle. One day I'll get a repair named after me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif I did this about 3 years ago. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Kevin, you can get those plastic rivits at any auto parts store. They break sometimes when removing them, so the parts guys will know exactly what you are talking about.
