A guy I know maintains a fleet of superdutys for a local landscaping company. Last night he got called out to a 99 F450 dually that sheared the lug studs off one of the duallys.

What the heck would cause this? The only two scenarios we could think of was, A.) someone insanely over torqued the lugs, or B.) Somebody loosened the lugs to try stealing the rim/tires... The guy was in a trailer park, there’s not anyplace around there that he could have been stuck in or anything like that, and even so, I would suspect a great many other things would break before shearing the lugs off.

Anyone ever have this happen before, or know what might cause this?

I ALWAYS use a torque wrench when tightening my wheels as an air impact will almost always be over torqued. You might ask how they were torqued. Also the previous poster as a valid point.

Yes, rims are stock. That's what we thought. The shop that does their tires does big trucks, and I know they have giant 1" impacts, so maybe that's what caused it..
