Hello All

I am not trying to start any flaming post but I am reasearching trani's and on the post below about Jasper and Monster Box tranis I saw alot of bad reports and alot of good ones. Some people have lots of failiers and some have none. Some of the faliers had great waranty service and some did not. I asked if anyone had a failed BTS trani and nobody did. So I thought I would post a new thread and see if anyone is willing to post if they had a BTS fail and if so how they felt they were treated when (and if) it did. I have come to believe they are awsome trani's, but if none have failed and then are invinsible, this I cannot believe. So if you had one fail please let us know. I want to be fair to the Monster Box people and the Jasper people (I know, both made at Jasper factory.

Lets keep this non personal and just stick to the facts.

As long as I can remeber on this site I dont think I have seen mabey one BTS broken if that. As far as I know brian has spent the time to devlope the parts that needed to be reaplced with high perf parts to make these things 100% bullet proof. I think its very possible to do that and I'm sure he will take care of his customers I dont htink he would ruin his rep by turning people away over somethign.

To find any problems you would have to go back in the beginning, but when something did go wrong Brian from what I heard did everything he could and more to get people on the road, don't get get wrong HE HAS A GREAT TRANNY,(<---- LOOK I said it)
But with the MB and Jasper, it probably depends if your dealing with Bob or Jasper, Jasper probably doesn't have the total drive to make their customers happy, But I know Bob is out to make his customers happy, hopfully next week I will get my MB and see what it can do /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

I'll step up and say that I had a failure with my BTS trans. Drove it for over a year without a hitch and then "Bang" nothing. I called Brian from the side of the road and left a Msg. that I broke the tranny. He returned my call within seconds and asked me to do a few things with my shifter and fuel pedal. Tranny was replaced and he covered the install and oil,.... well everything.

Now I must tell you that I told Brian that it was my fault and that I would cover the cost. I had the tranny setup for 350hp (when it was installed) and now have been putting it to the abuse of 525hp without having it upgraded. Brains response was "Don't worry about it, I'll ship one out with all the modifications needed, no charge, I have more custom pieces that you can't break" with a chuckle in his voice. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

As was previously noted, YES...there have been failures of BTS transmissions. When this happens, Brian remedies the problem as fast as he possibly can and is genuinely concerned for what failed and how to prevent it from ever happening again.

Having watched a number of 4R100 transmissions going together at BTS, and having had one of my own, there is not another transmission I would use in my truck.

I have been on this site for over a year and have seen reports of the occasional BTS failure. In every instance but one BTS made the greatest effort to fix it. The other instance was a guy who after his BTS failed, decided that he did not want another BTS and went to John Wood Automtive to have him fix it. It's not that Brian wouldn't have fixed that one, just that person had a John Wood tranny in another vehicle and for some reason liked it better than the BTS and therefore paid up money for John Wood to fix hi broken BTS. But for the most part, they seem pretty strong and only seem to break from "acts of god" if you will. A big plus with BTS is they will go through your tranny after the two year point and upgrade nay parts with better parts if something better has come around. I think he just charges fluid cost and not much more for this.

Monster boxes: now I definately have seen more failure reports on these than BTS trannies. The ones bought through Bob Riley seem to get a 100% attention when they have problems. The ones bought from other Jasper dealers seem to get the run around. The only way I would EVER buy a Monster Box is through Bob Riley.

ATS: Feedback all over the spectrum. They are junk, they are great, definately spendy. Seems to be much love and hate over these trannies and ATS in general. Seems if they fail, they will fix but if I remeber right the repair process is a real Pain in the butt. Something like you have to pull the tranny, ship it to them, they tear down and inpect/fix, then they send it back...ends up being a big time consuming hassle I would think.

Suncoast: 3 year warranty is a big plus. Seem to hold up well as long as they aren't being beat on to the extreme. Seen reports that they can be hard to get hold of at times of warranty need. seem to be pricey.

John Wood Automotive: Seem to hold up well. I havn't seen any people complaining about them failing. Uses the controversial 6.0 TC upgraded with billet front plate. Last time i spoke with John, prices were very reasonable but "inflation" may have hit these trannies hard. You can't mail order these trannies, he will only build you one when you bring vehicle to him.

All I have written is just subjective opinion and no way constitures 100% hard core fact. It's just warm and fuzzy feelings I have developed from reading posts about these trannies. If I was gonna have a tranny built and I lived close to Southern Cal, I think I wouldn't hesitate to visit John Wood and get one of his assuming his prices having skyrocketed. Since I don't see me driving THAT far, I could see myself driving to BTS in Akansas. If I was gonna do mail order, I'd probably call Bob Riley up and get me a Monster Box.

Excellent post.
I too have the MB and havent had any problems so far. I dont really want to see how good the warranty is either since I did the install myself and use my truck daily. I dont enjoy crawling around the truck but I really dont enjoy paying to have things done.

I have been told that I squeak when I walk. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

I didnt post in the MB thread because it was getting into arguements.
I dont even bother to get in those. This thread has been very pleasant and non emotional.

I will second everything Hammer said.

Now if you go and look thru the threads in theTansmission - internal mods and aftermarket trannies in the "little secrets" you will find posts by several members whose service stands out mainly kcastle and m bullock and if you don't get many hits you might try and PM some of those highlighted above and ask them. Somewhere in some of those "little secrets" threads I have linked to several of the threads where folks have had first hand experience with the service Brian provides. I have only heard one negative members comments on BTS and that seemed more of an administrative type issue that something performance wise.

Nothing wrong in asking your question. Parts breaks machinery fails. I don't care what it is, if its mechanical something is eventually gonna fail. Might be the manufs. fault my be some vendor upstream who was building parts on the Friday before Labor Day weekend.

Point is no matter what it is, eventually it will break. Every time a part goes round and round, that is one less time it will ever perform that function again.

BTS trannys break as well, but I would put more faith in the ability of BTS to get me going back on the road than anybody else. BTS is still small enough that they are going to deal with each company on a 1 to 1 basis, and NOT put some "Service Manager Has Guidelines to Follow" lame duck lame ass finger pointing bull crap. Not to point any fingers /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

kcastls's transmission wasn't even broke. It had been removed by somebody that did work on his truck in Florida. The torque converter/flexplate bolts where all missing and the holes in the converter where all "beat out".

Interesting ..... but read carefully what I said as it applies to that list

Also if any of those highlighted would like to expand on exactly what was wrong the owners are welcomed to elaborate here or even in a PM to me and in the future I will add that owner's specific comments. I haven't read of too many specifics on individual problems as to causes, etc. from the owner's affected.

You can highlight my name, I broke my BTS this past winter. Talked to Brian the Monday after it happened, had the new tranny by the next Monday with all the upgrades and fixes for no charge. My story is similar to Blow_by's. It was my fault, and I offered to pay for the shipping, but Brian just said, "nope, you don't owe me a dime."

It ended up being a broken input shaft, Pics

I don't know, just speculation on my part, but maybe the higher rate of failure for the MB can be attributed to the installer. ie: BTS probably did the bulk of installs for his trans, whereas with the MB more DIY people have installed them.

Larry,
You can add TomS (Denver, CO) and LarryS (Loveland, CO) to the BTS list as well. In fact, from the Colorado Power Stroke Club we've had three trucks there in the past 2 weeks and another one going next week. Not too mention many that have been shipped out to CO lately. I'll have to try and gather up all the names from our club for ya.
