1997 F250 7.3. I just recently changed the water pump. Today while services AC system, I shut the truck off and the fan spun off and damaged radiator. I got my fan back on and I’m going to change the radiator tomorrow. My question is how tight do I need to torque this fan nut onto the water pump shaft?? I thought it would self tighten but I was wrong!

It will go against the grain for some, but I always used a little blue loctite.

I did use some blue loctite. I may regret it 100k miles down the road but buying a new radiator sucked.

Does the direction of rotation have a tendency to tighten the fan mount, not loosen ? I did the pump on my 2000 Excursion and borrowed the fan tool, to tighten it up good.

The direction of rotation should theoretically tighten the fan but if it’s not tight enough it will loosen once engine stops rotating.
