Hello,
Getting ready to flush the ATF fluid again. I changed over to synthetic using the procedure on this site at about 20,000 miles becuause I tow heavy and with 50000 miles now its time again. Should I change the transmission filter? First time I didn't. How hard is it to change, where can I find one and do I have to replace gasket on the pan? Flush and change was easy but not to sure about dropping the pan. Any comments appreciated.
Thanks,

Just my opinion, but I would drop the pan this time just to check for any buildup of crud / gunk in the pan that might indicate high / unusual wear. The pan gasket is reusable and almost any parts store should have the filter.

Changed my trans filter last night. Drained the pan and dropped it with no mess at all.

**Caution**

When you pull the filter down/out of the trans, you're gonna get flooded unless you're ready. Made huge mess in my basement but nothing that couldn't be cleaned up. Just watch for that extra splash when pulling filter off.

Good luck,

There's an o-ring on the circular part of the filter that fits up into the tranny body. Sometimes when you pull the filter down, the o-ring stays up inside the trans body. Be sure to check that it came out when you pull the old filter down.

Also:
Lay a big tarp out under your truck before you start this job. It makes clean-up easier and insures less dirt gets into the trans.
