After 3 years, and 24,000-ish miles, I've finally sent in my first blackstone sample and got the results back today.

Basically a spotless engine!

I've run DELO 400 and FoMoCo FL-1995 filters since the day I bought the truck. No exceptions. Oil changed every 3000 to 4000 miles. This sample was still clean, even tho I have a 2 year old TYMAR filter on that looks like it has seen better days!! Hows that for filtration? (I really should change it tho, the restriction gauge is actually starting to move!).

The Molybdenum is higher than the "universal" because DELO now includes it in their oil, which they didnt used to (according to my reading anywayz).

Guess I'll hold out to 4500 next time.

That has to be a great feeling Daryl /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif Good for you.

I am kind of scared to ever send one in on mine... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif AFTER I purchased the truck,,I have had some doubts about how it was maintained before me,,for 107k. I have tried to be great on my maintenance for the last 70k. I have wanted to send in a sample,,,but like I said,,skeered!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/vulnerable.gif If it came back with a good reading I would be thrilled /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif
Good for you,, We can tell by looking at your truck you maintain it wonderfully!

The Iron and Silicon are higher than I like to see on my truck. You named the probable cause the 2 year old Tymar filter, that will do it. Replace the filter and your Silicon will drop (which should be 1-3) and so will your Iron level (wear which could be due to Silicon). Everything else looks great.

I sort of agree on the silicon since mine even with filthy looking elements with over 20K miles on them are running 4 to 6 for a 4 to 5 K change interval. As far as the iron you should look at my OA (A002) HERE and then look at the amount of towing and the Cu, Pb and other bearing elements ... that's what happens when you really beat on your PSD and run consistenly high but still safe cylinder temps. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif The exact use of your vehicle is not something that BS and others typically take into consideration and it took me over a year and like 6 OAs to demonstrate that to them.

As long as you're not getting significant restriction, what I see is an increase in silicon upon a filter cleaning/changing and then reduced Si levels the more miles I have on my filters ... it's the old dirty looking filters are actually pretty darn good so don't depend just upon looks on when to service/change, but have something else like a good in cab air restriction gauge to tell you how your air filters are performing along with a good consistent OA program. Look again at when I last serviced my air fitler at 26.4K miles where it jumped from 8 to 10 and then the next four OA analyses where it showed 6, 5, 4, then 6. Even this trend needs to be balanced with excatly how hard I worked my engine and my last OA was by far the hardest I've ever worked my engine ... that puppy was always sweaty with it's tongue dragging on the ground /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
