Saturday morning getting back from the boat store, my truck experienced it's first regeneration at idle. I parked the truck, put the gear shifter in park, applied the parking brake and the engine RPM's rose from app 600 to app. 1200. I knew what was happening, I exited the truck to see how hot the exhaust really was. It was hot. I was able to hold my hand 8" from the exhaust tip for about 5-10 seconds before it got too hot. With the higher engine RPM, the heat is blowing out a distance of about 3-6 feet. My exhaust tips are still clean, soot free at now 650 miles. I climbed into the bed and checked the floor for excessive heat, it was no hotter than the rest of the bed from the sun's rays. Truck is running excellant, better than any other truck I have owned, even better than my '04 6.0. I have crawled under it everywhere, no bell housing drip(no assembly lube, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif) dry as a bone. Can't help but noticing how much larger the coolant reservoir is, quantity does not rise and fall either. Truck does wander a bit on crappy roadways, I suspect the more aggressive Continental tires that come with the "Off Road" package are the culprit. So far mileage is hitting right at 11mpg. I have washed the truck twice in one week, it sure is purty.

Skup,
Congrats on the truck. Still waiting on mine. It's been built but not delivered. I'll keep myself busy in the mean time reading the posts from those who already got theirs.

If you know it has been built, you will have it soon. Ours was built May 8th, shipped May 9th and I took delivery May 23rd, truck arrived at dealer May 22nd. If you are like me, you will find yourself staring out the window every half hour or so at your truck, reading the owner's manual cover to cover, washing the truck too often(twice for me so far), silly grin as you drive, having to become accustomed to drivers(especially the competition) slowing down as they pass to take a look. Ford and it's employees did a fantastic job on these trucks.

CaptSkup (or anybody else who may know) - In your opinion, could the excess heat during regen cause damage by scorching anything close to it? For instance, if I parked my truck 2 feet away from my Honda Accord (both within a 16 ft garage door), or if it was sitting in a parking space very close to another car (18-24") and it went into regen?

Thanks

I do not think it would cause damage to something like another car, but plants could certainly be damaged from the heat. If when you park the truck and notice it going into regen(very easy to know), all you have to do is press on the brake for it to stop or just as easily shut down the engine. It will remember and resume regen when you start the truck back up. Say you are parking in your garage, place the shifter in park, apply the parking brake and it starts regen, just shut it down. If the regen was happening in the driveway, I would keep the kids away from it until it finished. First time what a stink it made. What torques me, all this emission equipment on my truck but here in Maryland no inspection, lots of old jolopies on the road spewing raw gas, burnt blue clouds of oil smoke.

Here in Seattle, most of the old stinker/junkers are all but gone. I hated following an old Vega as it burnt a quart of oil from stop light to stop light.

Hunter40 and I are idling at the same intersection, so to speak, with our trucks. We're both built and awaiting shipment. (I'm Steiny on BlueOval, Steiny was taken here by somebody who hasn't posted in many years). Mine was built on the 23rd but not gate released until the 25th. I imagine (hope) it shipped today. I got an update from ViperPilot at 00:46 this morning. I'm going to wander by the dealer after dinner "just in case." Thanks for the status report CaptSkup. I like hearing your blow-by-blow. You have a talent for typing.
