Ok, i'm heading to the track for the first time today. I want to grab some baseline numbers before I do my engine swap. So here's the questions. . .is there anything I need to be aware of so i don't look like a moron out there? What's everyone doing for a launch (I'm 4X4)? I'm taking my AE w/me, what inputs should I monitor to tell the best story about what the truck is doing? And any other advice would be cool. Oh, and if anybody wants to laugh at me, i'll be running at Cordova (for those from IL).

Thanks,
Brad

Push the skinny pedal on the right when the light turns green.

hey man its not hard. but i guess u already know how to launch just when the last yellow light turns on is about when u need to start letting off the break cause green comes up fast. just dont let off till u go through the signs. other than that. unless u wanna show off when the guy at the track tells u to spin them just dont unless u got water on ur tires. (try to avoid the water) oh and turn ur ac off before u get there they get pissed. the dripping water gets on the track and its dangerous. keep ur windows up when u run and have fun.

[/ QUOTE ]YEAH, you could be like Andrew (00PSD?) and videotape your run while you are driving. Whatever you do do not drive while looking through the little video cam viewfinder. Makes things seem a lot farther away than they really are. LOL.

Diesel Power magazine had a decent article on first timers to the drags in the current issue. They promised more on their web site but they don’t have a lot from the current issue, (I think they want you to buy it). The article had some great do’s and don’ts.

I wonder if one of their "don'ts" is not to smoke the track personel in a giant black cloud /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/phoney.gif

Put a penny between your knees and hold it there. That will keep your virtue in tact.

I'll post my information when I'm not so tired, but my best time was 16.08 @ 81.28, and my best mph was 16.22 @ 82.16, definately nothing like elmo's been turning out. . .but it's a start at least /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

IIRC, I crossed the scales last time at roughly 8200lbs, I had a passenger so all in all I guess I didn't fare too bad. But once the new engine is in I hope to be a lot better. I ran in both the 100 and 80 hp BTS tunes, both with and without the waste gate connected. All runs tripped the SES light. I was running the AE the whole time, so i will post some information and graphs once I have a chance to crunch all the numbers.

Thanks for all the input. . .and I left with the penny still between my knees, so i guess it's all good.

Video is up on my Webshots. I had 4 runs, but there were 3 of us running and couldn't be everywhere at the same time, so we only got 1 of my runs on tape. . .too bad it wasn't the fastest (or one that i didn't red light).
