Installed my new TS chip a few weeks ago and this was my first time towing with it, it only has the canned tunes.
Pulled out to go camping in Boone NC on Friday evening. Left my chip in the stock position until I got past North Wilkesboro and started up the 8% grade on 421 into Boone. I flipped my switch to the 75hp position and felt a nice acceleration and was maintaining about 60 mph when halfway up my intercooler boot blew off under the battery. Well that brought things to a crawl and had to pull over. I fumbled with basic wrenches and got the boot back on and 45 min later was back going. About a minute before it blew off I noticed my boost was around 22, without the chip I was never able to make more than 18 lbs of boost. Guess I should have checked the boot clamps before towing but that never occurred to me.
I will be buying a new set of boots and clamps soon.
Otherwise, performance was noticeably better.
I watched my transmission temps closely and highest I saw it get was upper 190's. I was very concerned with it as it has 320K on it.

How were the EGT's with the 75hp tune? I am just curious as my Hydra in the 65hp tow tune the EGT's were climbing past 1300 fairly easily on just about any serious hill out here in the Sierra.

They were around 1100, but may have climbed a little higher if the boot had not come off. After I got the boot back on I switched back to stock for the rest of the climb until I could get better tools to reseat and adjust the clamp.

I remember the first time a boot blew off on me, scared the heck out of me. I was afraid to open the hood to see what had happened. That was back with my first diesel, it was a 99 PSD. If that had happened on a gasser it would have been bad.

Clean the pipe ends as well. They get pretty greasy as well.

Hairspray on the Inside helps keep them on.

If I use the 65hp tow tune i can't get 1300 even if I floor it up the hill.

Are you towing an 11500# 5th wheel up a mountain when you floor it? :icon_wink:
