I have a big puddle of fuel

I have this big puddle of fuel in the valley of the engine that runs down on the ground at the transmission or back of engine. I also have a leak back at the duel fuel tank switching valve. The rubber fuel lines look like they are special made from the factory with clamps I have never seen before so where do you get them? I am getting air in the lines that causes the truck to almost stall going up hills even with my foot to the floor. Has anyone replaced these lines back at the tank and the switching valve? Will the tanks need to be drained? I just filled both fuel tanks right before the truck started acting up so I have about 30 or more gallons of fuel on board. I have a 1995 7.3 Power Stroke.

i have a fuel leak, it is coming out of the bottom of the fuel filter i believe... or it looks like it is at least... Could this be the same thing as what your referring to?

Well the verdict is in and here is what was done to fix the truck after service codes were ran. Had to replace the exhaust pressure sensor, injection control pressure, EBP & tube, ICP, IPR, bad leaking lift pump and hoses, low fuel pressure sensor and injector o-rings. Checked fuel filter and found to be like new and injector pump is good. My truck runs like a new truck and now you can actually feel the power the truck has gained and hear the turbo whistle every time you hit the foot peddle. Before the work, the turbo could not be heard and the truck had little power. Even the transmission is shifting better. I can't believe the difference the work made.

Fuel Leak

My 97 is also leaking. It only seems to leak when the engine is cold. Think it might be the O rings? I have checked all the fuel lines, the fuel pump and everything else I can think of. :icon_mad:

New Drain Valve Assy.

Just tore into my 96 this evening with new drain valve kit. Got too dark so had to retire. Pump under turbo was replaced last year. Still leaks. Looks like the bowl definitely has to come loose. I AM NOT A DIESEL MECHANIC. I know there is air in the lines now worrying about the first start up attempt. The fuel lines I've looked at on the truck look to be in bad shape. This has been a very helpful reading, thanks very much. Any pearls of wisdom on whatever else may leak in there? All lines and o ring will be replaced, I only want to do this once every twelve years or so. Thanks again -Pat

Replaced drain valve and o rings, cleaned and dried valley pan well. Still leaks. I bought a distribution pump with new washers and all new fuel lines. I'll check the pump replaced by the Ford Stealership. Looks like I will need to yank the turbo so I'm going to wait till I got the money for a 1.00 Turbine Housing and a better compressor wheel. I'll do the HPX while I'm at it long with a fuel pressure shim and gauge. There's really not a whole lot that can leak into the valley pan when you think about it, there's hoses and O rings but that's it. Not quite as difficult to work on as it is intimidating. Reading and pictures help. Anyone know of a good manual to get? I have a chilton, but it sucks for the powertrain on a diesel, great for chassis and brakes.

I have a 1997 7.3 powerstroke that is still leaking. I replaced the lift pump that was leaking. Now I found a leak that is leaking from the sensor (??) that gauges if there is water in the fuel, on the fuel cannister. Can I just fix that or just replace the whole cannister??? Thx!!

You will get more and faster help if you post down in the regular forums. As far as the leak yes you can replace the sensor or if you would like just remove it and put a pipe plug in its place. If you plug it off just remember to drain the housing every now and then to keep water out of the injectors.

Can the drain valve pull air, but not leak any fuel??? Truck starts then dies by loosing fuel pressure.

I found the culprit/leak called the Fuel Restriction Sensor. Search this website. One post said prior to 97, it's located on the bottom of the fuel bowl. My 97 is on the top. On my way now to H Cheapo for the plug

Trying to replace my fuel filter on a truck I bought this weekend. "Water in Fuel" light is on. My drain valve does not seem to want to open. Is there a trick to it? I am afraid to force it and break something...

My valve is black/grey and located in front passenger side of bowl.

Yesterday I went to replace the fuel filter, old one quite dirty, couldn't open valve so I sopped all fuel up in bowl with very clean rags. It will left about a 1/4 inch of liquid in the bottom. (Stuff in the way preventing getting rags all the way down there.) I put in new fuel filter. Now light goes off and on (mostly on) so I must have gotten some water out. Assuming I can get valve open, can I now just open it and let rest of water out?

Thanks,

Dave

For what it's worth, my fuel leak was from the left fuel return hose, which had rubbed on the hpop for 14 yrs. and got a wear spot. I wrapped it(leak area)with some hi perf tape made for leaks, then put the id tag over the tape, and used a small hose clamp over the
tag, just to hold until I could get a new hose. I have the new hose, however, it will take a
crowfoot 12pt to loosen the 9/16 swivel fitting from the head, which I don't have, yet. I had a tuff time finding that leak.......

My 95 f350 7.3 required the fuel filter housing to be replaced. The canister was rotted through at the bottom. The guy who sold it to me had cobbled iT up with some kind of epoxy I think... and it went bad after a few months. Was over $300 to replace. I guess It pays to blow the water out thru the valve once in a while. There's at least a couple hose connects under the bottom that I thought must be leaking.....turns out pinhole leaks in the most expensive component,

Fuel Leak Also. Please Help

I have a 97 F-250. Mechanic says fuel bowl and drain valve are bad. Quoted $700 to fix and replace both. Is this a really complicated fix or something a mechanically inclined person do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
