Sorry if this is in the wrong section of the forums, but over the last couple of weeks I have been smelling wet carpet smell and finally found where it is coming from today while cleaning the inside of my truck. The track under the kick plate trim along the passanger side of the truck has been holding moisture (front and rear door). I looked under the cab in hopes I would see a rubber plug missing but there doesnt seem to be anything out of place so I'm not sure as to where it can be coming from. Has this happened with anyone else. I did a quick search but only came up with coolant smells which is not what I'm smelling. I thought that it may be coming from the a/c condiser but not sure if that is a real option.

thanks for any help that anyone can provide!!!!!

I thought that it may be coming from the a/c condiser but not sure if that is a real option.

The A/C condenser (condiser) is in front of the radiator, so I doubt that the moisture is coming from there.

Pull the carpet up on the sloop, see if it's wet. Could be the drain tube from the heater/A/C unit is plugged up.

I'm sorry not the condenser, but the drain in the ac unit. Thats what I was thinking. Anyway, is it possible for it to drain into the truck if it is stopped up? I see that there is water under the truck when the a/c is running so I'm not sure if thats what it could be or not?

The carpet is wet along that tray by the kick plate but it doesnt seem to go to far under the carpet.

Hi - I had this same thing after washing my truck.

I traced the leak to the rear window and welded cab seams. I had to use silicon to seal it up. I actually could hold a hose on the roof and see it coming in.

Not a tough job, but I did have to pull a bit of trim to gain access.

That was a couple years ago - no problems since I sealed it up. I think that when I sealed along the top and sides of the outside of the rear window - that prolly did most of the sealing. THe rubber gasket creates a water channel and you need to caulk under that - but do not obstruct the channel. It could also be that there is debris in the channel causing an obstruction and the water is taking getting around the seal.

Anyway - you are going to have to trace the water up to the source. We noticed it one day at the passenger side threshold and upon inspection, I could follow it back and up the seatbelt humo in the rear - so I knoew it was coming from the rear window.

Regards,

Could be the windshield. Some have had it leak on the drivers side.

They also have a history of leaking through the clearance lights, if you have them mounted on top. If it is leaking, you're lucky if it is on the passenger side. If it leaks on the driver's side, you're looking at possibly having to get a new pcm at some point. just my .02 cents worth

Bringing this up from a search. I noticed it was leaking after we had the hurricane rains. Track was full of water. With rain in forecast last night removed the trim and pulled the carpet back. Truck sat fairly level last night. This morning I had water in track. Nothing wet along firewall, kickpanel area. Looks like moisture definately coming down by rear pillar seatbelt area (extended cab). So I guess I will do some exploring and testing on rear window etc.

OK I was getting water in from around the vents in the rear cab wall. I could see it this morning and evidence of water running down. Sealed those up.

I am also getting water where the rear cab wall meets the cab corner on the rear of the truck. I can see the water running down the seam from just below the window all the way down the seam to the floor and then it runs down to sill. I am thinking it must be the rear window seal there or the plastic trim piece that I am assuming covers the weld between the roof and pillar of truck. What holds that piece in, just silicon? It moves a bit but I don't want to break something off taking it out. I pulled the window gasket back on the outside, it was wet underneath but raining now so hard to pinpoint it.

I had dired area with a hairdryer. I think main leak was vent as don't have nearly as much water as I did and it has been raining all day. Its just moist now at sill and I can see it coming down seam.

We recently had to change a GEM sensor in our 2002 F650. After it was up and running fine we ran in to a similar problem again during TS Lee. After running a hose over it to check the windsheild we noticed water running down from the bottom left corner of the dash. After tracing it we found it was coming in from a clearance marker light on the roof, running down the seem at the top of the windsheild, and down the drivers side A pillar, behind the dash, and over(as well as through) the GEM sensor. Which explains why it would start itself on occasion during hard rains. Also makes me wonder if the first sensor(which was thrown away) was actually bad. Odd situation, headliner was completely dry.

Flipper My 01 supercab is leaking water too. I went in it after a rain tonight and it is the rear cab vents and tje cab seams at the back glass. I tried sealing the old vents on just the inside of the gasket, but they still leak. I have new ones to put on. I can seal the cab seams from the inside, but water will still stay in between from the outside. I have a little surface rust on the top of the outside seam just under the window. The way these super cabs flex is probally what causes this problem. Crappy deseign. Also my clear on the paint is peeling. I hate to upgrade to a newer truck, because I only pull my fifth wheel a couple times a year and the truck is set up like I need it with on 78K. Descision time.
