Interesting read..looks like it's going to be January for release..and it's gonna be a "2008"..hmmmmmmmmm

Check this out:

http://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory?id=2004159

Now, after reading this..does this mean there will not be a 2007 model or is FMC going to use the 6.0 PSD in the 2007 model year?

The new ULSF began distribution today, with completion of transition scheduled for Oct.15,2006. The new PSD is built to operate on ULSF, so any release before Oct. would have been sensless. Speculation abound as to why they are waiting until Jan. 07, if not mistaken they have till 08 to meet the new EPA standards. So you can not find fault with any effort to get things right delay or not. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

All of the new diesel motors are to be released by Jan. 1 2007 and soon afterwards they will make it to the assembly line and be in trucks.

The plan was NEVER to have them before then because the new motors are very expensive and quite undesirable.

Not many manufacturers would chose to release the emmision standards before the government actually requires them. (actually it is common practice for Japanese motorcycles to be ahead of the curve in emmisions)

With the ULSF mandate, what will this do to the 6.0s and 7.3s? Will there be any long-term issues related to what the components are currently designed to run with?

No. See any of about 20 different threads on this subject scattered throughout the boards.

Joey -- There should be nothing to worry about. Logically, the gasoline retailers and petroleum distributors could not afford the liability exposure of marketing and selling a fuel that would be harmful to diesel engines cutrrently in use. Everything I have seen and read indicates that with ULSD fuel, the sulphur content has been decreased, additive packages are added for lubricity purposes, and fuel economy is expected to decrease as the btu content of the ULSD fuel is lower than LSD fuel. There may also be an increase in price for the ULSD fuel because of the additional refining steps required.

My suggestion -- buy the LSD fuel as long as you can find it. If ULSD is the only fuel available, pay the predicted higher price and run it.

[/ QUOTE ]The ULSD has been for sale where I live for months.

From my understanding, the manufacturers are accelerating their smog standards in exchange for the government dropping the requirement that all diesels enter the smog check program.

The 6.0 should not be effected since the initial mission of the 6.0 was to meet reduced emissions, but 7.3s and other older diesel might need to consider additives. From what the tech at the service department said the reduction in sulfar will effect the lubrication of the injectors? Planning on using an additive myself just to be safe. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif
