I have the truck below in my sig and have done the mods listed there. I have not done a larger exhaust, so I don't know if more air will hurt anything. I did not really notice any difference after installing just the AIS, so I was wondering if the Zoodad mod or the fender sleeve would help at all, or will I be pushing to much air for a stock exhaust??? Also I don't want to have any problems with turbo surge or stall. I simply want to get the best effect out of the AIS and if doing one of these two mods will help then I want to do it, but I don't want to create other problems.
Thanks for your help.

I too purchased the AIS Kit for my truck. The AIS Kit does flow more air than the stock unit, but what the AIS is really used for is better filtering of the air. Ford needed to come up with something that replaced thier stock design, with it's inherent weaknesses. No doubt there are units out there that flow more air.

I also have the ZooDad Mod. I think any time you can get more air to the turbo, do it. Especially the cooler air flow, from outside of the engine compartment. I made up a metal screen to cover the air inlet, to keep the large particles out. However I am not using the fender sleve. I really do not know if I will. I don't want to cut into the side if the AIS.

To answer your other question. No, I don't see any problem with flowing the most air to your engine you possibly can. For our trucks more air flow is always a good thing. But if you are interested in flow to your engine, how about flow from your engine. How come you haven't upgraded your exhaust yet? That upgrade will do as good for your truck, as anything else will.

Anyhow good luck.

I am running the Ford AIS with the ZooDad mod and the fender sleeve. I cant tell you if the ZooDad made any difference as I did it when I install the AIS. But I did ride for a while before I did the fender sleeve mod. It would pull the filter minder down some before the fender sleeve mode. after the fender sleeve mod it would barely move the filter minder. Now all of this was with everything in my signature except for Jody's tuning. It was running a stock PMT2 program. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/vomit.gif Now with Jody's programing it is pulling the filter minder down again.

If I were you and were not planning to mod the truck heavily I would do the ZooDad and the fender sleeve. And I would just change the muffler to a Walker BTM. I did not put a screen in front of my ZooDad mod and see very minimal trash in the air box.

Thanks for the reply's. I do plan on doing a 4" turbo back exhaust but not for 6 months or so. I was worried about forcing to much air in and not having a large enough exhaust to get it out. I don't know if I need both of them, would prefer the zoodad instead of cutting into the side of the AIS BOX. I appreciate any other advice on this subject thanks!!!

Not to hijack, but I would assume the theory of the Zoodad is the ram air effect. Would that be lost if the second hole (that isnt rammed (so to speak) bled off the pressure? or is there enough pull from the turbo that the ram effect is negligible?

Without the fender sleeve and just the ZooDad mod the filter minder will pull down part way. After doing the fender sleeve mod the filter minder barely moves. Super easy to do, I would not hesitate to do it again.

There is no ram air effect. The Zoodad just offers a straight path of cold air to the AIS snorkle. It also has the potential to offer a straight path of rain and snow according to some people who have had that happen. Anyway, putting a hole in the side of the AIS is simple and helps. FOMOGO had ther AIS with the Zoodad and just recenlty added the 3.5" side hole and foam sleeve and I think his filter minder dropped even more than the Zoodad alone.

I suggested the Walker BTM as an alternative to the full 4 inch exhaust. The reason I did, is that with the 4 inch system you are going to experience the dreaded turbo surge. That then leads to a Wicked Wheel install and / or an ATS housing.

You generally wont notice the turbo surge in everyday no load driving. It will be there when you hook to a load.

Since you did the BTM and then 4 inch, what are you comments on a comparison of the two mods?

Did you install your WW before or after the 4 inch system?

I just drilled a series of 7/16 holes(24 total, 6 rows of 4) where the Zoodad would be. It takes away from any ram affect that there might be, but it still lets a lot more air get to the intake than stock.
