The AIS is the best air filter for your truck providing you are not trying to make a drag truck. For modestly enhanced performance the AIS is great. The fender sleeve mod will allow increased air flow without restriction. The filter can hold a huge amount of dirt with minimal restriction and filters extremely efficiently. I have never seen the price significantly lower than the price www.powerstrokeshop.com offers it and if you type "JUNEFREIGHT" in the comment field of your order (through June 30) you will receive free freight up to $25!

AIS is the way to go for clean filteration. Love mine and I travel some dusty roads during the summer.

Love the AIS but I don't like the fender sleeve mod, it allows road air=dirty air, into the filter, I prefer the zoodad mod. This allows good clean air from the front of the truck. Do a search and you will see what it intails, the good news is it's free!! Powerstrokeshop has had the best deal on these for a few years now, nobody beats them. Watch their website as they offer the replacement filter for $50+ bucks now and then, which is also a great price. I have one sitting on the shelf. Next get the Walker BTM muffler and watch your EGT's drop 100-150 degrees. Napa sells them around $40, the factory muffler is very restrictive the BTM is 3.5" straight thru. If you don't have gauges I would get them before you do anything, it will allow you to see how all future mods affect your truck. Get all 3 for under 300 shipped with A pillar and install kit can be had at www.kensperformancesolutions.com

I'll agree with what NCHornet said. If I might be so bold to clarify what he said...If money is tight (I know about four extra mouths to feed myself), the AIS and Walker BTM mods will be fine to do without gauges. You just won't APRECIATE the significance of the temperature drops that occur, because you won't actually know they happened. Just don't add a chip without the gauges first...that's a no-no. [NCHornet, hope you'd agree with my clarification]

If I might add one other "cheap but necessary" mod, that's the high-pressure crossover hose. It's about $50, but it is excellent for the way the engine will run afterwards (smooth and quieter).

Tailgate,
I agree and disagree with your statement. If you have a grocery getter and don't tow anything than sure, you can do these mods without gauges, but if you use your truck, as a truck, and you tow with it, even a stock truck should have the min 3 gauges. I also recommend gauges before any mods because it gives solid info on how each mod has affected your powertrain, trying to avoid the "It feels like more power" type responses. So a lot depends on how you use your 7.3.

Though chrissc doesn't have gauges...yet,at least he has his priorities correct by doing the AIS and a BTM muffler before he starts asking what chip to buy. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The Walker BTM #21470 is available lots of places.

If you want to support the vendors that support TheDieselStop, you can order it from http://www.blackclouddiesel.com/Ford/walkermuffler.htm - note the install instructions require a tiny bit of welding. I had mine installed by a Midas Muffler shop, and they charged me about $35 a few years ago.

NAPA under NAPA part number 21470. They probably won't have it in stock, but they can order it.

Advance Auto Parts and other brands that are part of www.partsamerica.com - again, they probably won't have it in stock, but they can order it. Or you can order it direct from www.partsamerica.com - just search for 21470.

Lots of folks prefer www.summitracing.com - search for part # 21470. Note they call it a "Dynomax" muffler, but Walker and Dynomax are two sides of the same Tenneco muffler operation.

Be sure to order the two 3.5" muffler clamps with the BTM. Ordinary auto parts stores don't have bigger than 3". I had to get mine from a big-truck parts store. Black Cloud Diesel shows them on the same webpage as the muffler.
