i tried asking this in another thread but had no results. i once read on here that you could determine which rods you have by the engine serial number and/or engine build date which is located on driver side valve cover. i know nothing is for guaranteed execpt for crawling under the truck and taking a peak in the inspection hole yourself. but i don't own a tool that size which would allow me to remove plug and see for myself. so just for sh---s and giggles, does anyone have the info for this particular method?

I made my own tool to remove the plug. I took a bolt and ground the threads till the end was square and it fit in the plug. Then turned it out with a wrench. Took about 15 min.

go to the hardware store and get a 5/16" piece of keystock, and grab it with a wrench. or if you buy an oilguard bypass filter kit it comes with a piece, because that plug is where the fitting goes for the oil return to the block.

your engine build date is definately boarderline for when the switch was made.

i know there are pictures on diesel innovations website showing what the rod bolts look like for each one
