This has just happened to me, i was driving to work the other day and my truck just died for no reason, done a little research and eveyone said replace cam shaft position sensor so i did, this somewhat help atleast it would them start, run a bit and die, they told me at the part store it was the fuel pump replaced that then you could drive it and it would loose power the engine light would come on as long as you were on the accelerator then it would die, noticed after relacing the fuel pump(mounted on frame) the fuel filter would not totally fill with fuel. Talked to mechanic at ford dealer he said check the fuel sending unit that is mounted in fuel tank. so dropped the tank pulled out the sending unit and this thing was clogged not sure how in the world there was any fuel getting thru, so i replaced it, put it all back together and the truck started 1 time and has not started since I am so lost and out of ideas, my head hurts from trying to figure this out i would appreciate any help or input I can get from you guys here.

By the way this is a 1999 F350 7.3L with about 260,000 miles. Other than the basic maitenance it has not given me any other issues at all

Thanks Wendi/Daniel

Found on Road Dead

Ok here goes a bit more i forgot at 4 am, after relacing the sending unit it would fill the fuel filter, not sure if it is getting to the injector pump or not.

Will check all the fuses to see if there is something there. By the way I have not checked any codes will the guys at the part store be able to get those or do i need to get it in to the dealer to get those?

Thanks,

Wendi/Daniel

ok truck is running and i test drove the fire out of it now the issue is when you get on the accelerator hard and get it up to bout 3500 RPMs it acts as if it is miss firing and the SES light comes on but by the time the RPMs fall back to normal and you come to a stop the SES light goes off and doesnt give any codes, is this just going to be that there is still some air in the fuel lines or is there something else i shold look at?

Thanks,

At 3500 RPM (that's the red line), the PCM is cutting fuel to the engine to keep you from over-revving it. I'm not sure if that will throw the SES light by itself. But, if you have a light (even if it goes back off), there will be a code. The parts stores have generic OBD-II code scanners that can't read our PSD's. You need a scanner capable of reading the codes from our trucks. Some of the tuners used to reprogram the computer will pull codes (Superchips, Edge, etc.) but not do any diagnostic tests. Most people on here seem to be using Autoenginuity (AE) to perform diagnostics on our trucks. I've had my AE for almost a year, and I'm still learning it. It allows you to connect a laptop to the truck to perform all kinds of tests, as well as retrieve the codes.

Who was driving ? You or Wendi ? :nono: :jester:

Yup 3500 is red line, pcm saved you motor , it de-fuels at that RPM.
If it don't stutter below that then you prolly got all the air out.

With all that dirt in the tank, sounds like your fuelling at a station that don't sell much diesel, don't fuel up if they have just filled the tank at the station, stirs up a lot of chit. Fuel at truck stops if you can.

You might pull the filter and check it after running for awhile. Then clean all the crap out of the bottom of the bowl, careful not to plug the small hole in the side of it.

By the way , you have a 99.5 after that build date. There was changes made from 99 to 99.5
