I need to change the front brake pads on my 2005 F-350 DRW. Should I get OEM pads or get aftermarket? I am very hard on brakes!! Also what is the recommended brake fluid? I might just do that while I am there, it's awfully black looking.

Thanks,
Tim

I have tried Raybestos top of the line pads on my '05.I was very unhappy with the pedal feel.Went back to OE.Much better.I tow all the time and the OE pads work great,no fade and very little dust! There isn't a large amount of choices for the '05 and '06.These trucks have new design brake pads.Just my observation.Good Luck

I got whatever crappy pads Autozone hands out - lots and lots and lots of dust, and squealing like you wouldn't believe. I just put on some GreenStuff pads instead and so far it looks like they put out a lot less dust. Much better braking and no squeal, too.

OEM pads work best according to my mechanic. More $$ but low dust and noise. I went with the recommendation at 50,000 mile and am glad I did.

Guess i was hesitant to comment based on all the folks saying bad things about the ford brakes. On my ole truck, they must have made a big mistake and put good brakes on it. Somebody messsed up /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

Anyway, my truck is semi retired now due to the cost of that heating oil. But if it ever wears out the pads i will be doing the oem route.

IIRC someone said that Ford sell Motocraft replacement pads and OEM pads and to ensure you get the OEM ones. Don't know, maybe one of the master techs will pipe up.
