With my 1997 powerstroke coming out of a wood area loaded with wood in 2 wheel drive at 25-35mph we hear a very loud noise like we ran over something. Got out looked under truck and front drive line broke off at rear of drive line and resting on skid plate. Truck stuck in drive. Called tow truck and they hauled it and us in. Will be looked at Tuesday. Just curious, any ideas or suggestions. Thanks

Yes, I was not there when it happened but that is the exact description from the two who were cutting and hauling the wood for me. I did not understand but was looking for help to understand??

The only two things that I can think of is that the truck was in 4 wheel drive and the front end was blocked some way and too much power was applied. The other is that the drive line was hit by something.

I had already thought that the story told to me by my two contract employees borrowing my truck may have not told exactly what had happened, but I will probably never know exactly what occurred?? Oh well, thanks for the imput and if anyone thinks of anything else give me a shot.....

Auto or manual hubs? If manual, were they locked?

Does "truck stuck in drive" mean that the truck has an automatic transmission? And that it won't shift? What exactly is wrong there? Shifter not moving? Shifter moving but transmission still in Drive?

The guys who were in the truck said they were in 2 wheel with manual hubs free (not locked). Mechanic just looked at truck and said "bad ujoint that locked up" He told me that either the hubs were locked or in 4 wheel drive. Had to be, no other way front drive line turning. It is being fixed. Thanks for input on a "story" that had me confused. No more loaning vehicles to guys not paying attention to what they were doing driving a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Case closed . Thanks
