my truck is 4x4 with 158,000 miles and the front end makes this scraping noise when the wheels spin in 2wd then in 4x4 the sound gets worse and higher pitched is it my bearings? is there any other way to check if it is?

I would check the brakes first if there is a scraping noise in 2x4, it may get worse in 4x4 as the whole system is working and torqueing up. Manual or auto hubs.......need more info as to good location of the noise.

first thing i would do would be to pull the front tires and inspect the brake pads to see if they are shot. I bet you have worn down your pads and now they are dragging on your rotor. thats an easy fix ust throw on some new pads and have your rotors turned. If they are still fine i would look to a wheel bearing next.
