I just pulled mine today, to clean and lube them, (Had one sticking some I guess, made a noise in tight turns) anyway, I can run without them in for a week or so if I need to, right? Can't imagine why it would hurt, but wanted to ask anyway.. (No oil back there, or anything to leak, and no support from the wheel locks either I doubt... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

ince there is no protection from debris or moisture entering the spindle bearing without the locking hubs in place, you might want to remove the snapring and three washers and apply a liberal coat of grease to the bore of the hub and reinstall the washers....

Also remember that the hub does offer stability to the stub shaft... an important thought considering the spindle bearing is "working" in 2WD and the front wheels are being articulated side to side....

Personally, this is not something I would do to my own truck unless I was in a real bind (as in stuck way out in the bush and had to get back to civilization).

Question..... my SOF hasn't locked my hubs in about 2 years. I alsways lock them manually. No biggie. I prefer it anyway. I know I have a vacuum leak somewhere b/c when I hit 4Hi my de-froster goes nuts and all kinds of craziness. I can't stand the auto lock crap b/c I just don't trust it. See what I mean, they break. All I need is to be deep in a hole and not be able to get out when I lock it in 4Hi.

Question is this.... FreddyFast.... or Jimm as well, if I went to another hub, i.e. MileMarker or Warn, what needs to be done about the vaccum lines?

I too am wondering about this? Both of my trucks have bad stock hubs...I got the excursion stuck trying to get the exmark unstuck..then had to get the pickup to get the excursion unstuck. Both trucks had the defroster on when in 4wd hi or low...excursion wouldnt engage at all..pickup did go into 4wd..What are the options here?
