The front 17'' tires on my '05 F350 Crew dually diesel are overdue for new ones. The prob is that they have less than 22,000 on them and the outer edges are worn almost down to the steel. My local Ford dealer said when I originally complained about the wear at 17,000 miles that FoMoCo says there's nothing wrong with the truck and that the rubber was wearing normally. Being a former employee of the dealership and good friends with the tech I believe them but not Ford. Anyway, has anyone else dealt with this? Anyone come up with a fix? The truck drives straight as an arrow so I haven't had the alignment checked. The existing tires are Contitracs. I don't due much towing; probably leass than 2000 miles a year. Any recommendations for a new rubbers? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My dad had this on his '03 F-250. Turned out his ball joints were bad and the alignment was way off. They need to do a complete alignment not just a toe-in check. I don't know if tire places will do free alignment checks anymore, that may be an option. Tell them you want to see the caster/camber readings also. Since the outer edges are worn, your tires are leaning out too far. It's an alignment issue. Simple as that. What won't be simple is getting someone to fess up that it's been that way all along and you shouldn't have to pay to have it fixed. Good Luck.

If a tire is aligned properly being perpendicular with the axle centerline why would they wear on opposite edges? Now I will say this, my dad is not one to rotate his tires when he needs to. But the rears wore perfectly flat across.
