bimmerboyz -- Go ahead and drain the fuel filter/water separator as there may also be some deposit in the bottom of the housing (underneath the fuel heater element). To remove the fuel heater element, disconnect the electrical connector (small blade-style connector on the inside wall), and then use a 7/8" crow's foot to remove the fuel filter stand pipe, keeping in mind it is REVERSE thread (lefty tighty, righty loosey /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif).
If you're feeling really adventurous, you can remove the fuel filter/water separator all together and clean it out with some carb or brake cleaner. If not, a shop vac works well for any gunk in the bottom of the housing.
For the gunk on the screen, check out the
Fuel Regulator article. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
