Both are good valve bodies. You will get very few people who have had both so the best you will get is opinions. I have the FTVB and love it. Greg has awesome customer service and stands behind what he sells. Brian does as well I just don't have any first hand expierence with his VB. Do a search and in the end choose what you feel most comfortable with.

What is the difference between the BTS valve body and the FTVB? Which one is recommended?

The BTS VB uses a shift plate that can be calibrated to your liking for shifts. The BTS has a more progressive feel depending on torque. It shifts soft when you drive easy and firmer the more aggressive you take off.
I have the FTVB and love it though, can't go wrong either way. I found the FTVB used (cheaper) or would've went with the BTS myself.

if you have a good tuner you don't need an aftermarket valvebody.

That is totally BS and incorrect.
A tuner will never match the physical changes that are done to the VBs to get the desired effect. A BTS vb does much more than just firm up the shifts.
I can answer your question, because I have used both. Like someone above said, the BTS comes with shift plate, the FTVB does not. I believe the prices are the same, so the choice is easy, BTS! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif
Just installed my BTS yesterday and love it, made a bigger difference than I expected. Great bang for the buck, Brian's a really great guy to talk to also. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif
