I had sholder surgery a week ago and can't shift my 6-speed Powerstroke. The tank is full, but I won't be able drive it for another six weeks. will I develope an alge condition in So Cal in that time?

Not if your fuel does not have any water in it. If it does then you may develop critters growing in the water. Purchase some Bio-cide and use as directed. Put it in before you store it and you may not need to replace any filters. If you wait until after it has sat to kill the bugs, you will have so many that they can clog your filters. Be preemptive.
