Hello,
Have a 94 idi turbo and have had it for liltle over 2 years and put on 40,000 miles on it,now has 178,000. When shoulds the fuel filter be changed and how do you go about it so you don't have to bleed the system of air? Thanks

I change mine every year whether it needs it or not, just like my underwear /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif. I usually change it out just before winter sets in, and dig out my longjohns /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif. I get engine up to S.O.T. to make starting easy. Before installing new filter, fill it up with new/clean diesel or PowerService/Standynes fuel treatment. It should fire right up and stumble a little but should keep running. OkieG

I don't recall the official change interval, but I change mine every year. Fill the new filter with power service and install. It might run a little rough for a minute or two, but it should stay running.

Get this though i looked up at the scheduled maintenance chart in the factory owners guide diesel supplement and they have the fuel filter change interval set at 60,000 miles with a sidenote of "more frequent intervals may be required dependant on fuel quality and vehicle usage."

I prefer to change mine at 10K intervals, with IH Fleetguard product. I find it much cheaper than a tow or an IP. Also do drain some fuel from the filter for water anytime the WIF light comes on or every 2500 miles.

I've never had the WIF light come on, or ever seen evidence of water in mine. I've put 100k miles on my truck since I've had it and I think I'm on my 3rd filter - just because I felt like I otta change it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

I really shouldn't write this but, for those who may not know, do make sure the WIF light comes on when you first turn the key. My WIF light has never come on, except when starting the vehicle. If it doesn't turn on when first turning the key on, then there is a problem. Tim

Every 30k, just for fun. How to change, under the fuel filter are:- one electrical connection (push on) and a 1/8 drain line, remove both. Then unscrew the filter, one out you will see an aluminum "flange" on the bottom, remove and put on the new filter. Fill with clean diesel or whatever additive you use. Screw back in, attatch wire and drain. Fire her up. (do it when the truck is warm )

My WIF and filter clog light only comes on during cranking of the starter motor.
