What does everyone like for a fuel filter? My garage just replaced mine and tried to whack me for $100! In order to go argue with them I looked them up on the net and found that AFE makes a "high volume" filer, but there are a number of aftermarket brands, some claiming to be high performance. What's everyone's expierence?

Depending on what your garage charges per hour that may not be out line. Yes you can do it for about $15 for the filter and about a half hour, but then you don't have ins., ele, and all the other stuff you need to stay in business.

Do it yourself. Buy the filter cap removal tool for $15, then put a rachet on there, take the top off and put in a new one, for less than $20. Too easy to pay someone $100. As long as you're getting a name brand filter you'll be just fine. I did see some "premium" filters for up to $40 online, but most I've talked to just go with a standard reputable company.

Here's the link to the tool...

The NAPA "GOLD" filter w/built-in cap ran me about $40. I removed & reinstalled the cap carefully with an open pair of Channel-locks & a rag...

While I had it all apart, I put the Viton O-rings in the bowl drain (McMaster-Carr, $5.13/bag25) and did the fuel supply mods from PowerstrokeHelp.com.

Took me about 1-1/2 hours to do everything...once I found the 2-ft stepladder.
